Hi. I've been looking for sulfate free organic shampoos and conditioners, as well as other haircare products that are free of sulfate and carcinogens. If you use them, do they usually work well? Which brands have you found to be the best? Can you suggest some more inexpensive ones?
Thanks :)

I'm not sure if they are organic or not, but they are sulfate free and I find them at the natural health store. I wouldn't call them cheap, but I don't find them too expensive. Giovanni brand for shampoo and conditioner, and Jason Dandruff Relief for dandruff/itchy scalp. I have seen Giovanni at Target. Basically, I went through a period of trying to figure out the best natural hair/skin care products for me - I tried a few brands which just didn't work out well for me, but the Giovanni ones worked as well as the regular brands I see at stores and the Jason dandruff relief worked better than others at the store.

Try Schwarzkopf. I use this brand. Image

If I was you, from your description of your hair type, I'd look for anything within this brand, that offers a lot of hair protection.
Don't try the Gliss range if you have scalp problems. I used to have Dove for years, depending on the strength of the hair and scalp.

Image If you're looking for a two in one try this, I know what it says, but you might just want to try it out first. For mums and toddlers it could be beneficial.

I have a terrible time washing my hair because it is so thick, so I often don't wash my hair that well at all, and I have tried many different kinds of haircare products. Any suggestions?

I've been using Alaffia shampoo and conditioner. the shampoo works perfectly but the conditioner doesn't make my hair super silky soft like synthetic conditioners. however, if I really try to leave it in for a few minutes it does the trick and it's probably a lot better for my hair in the long run. also, the bottles are pretty big--32 ounces for about 10-15$. I've had the same conditioner bottle for almost a year now!
I really like their lavender and vanilla mint scents but they have more to choose from including unscented versions.

pixie cuts are really cute and are much less hassle. have you considered changing the way you wear your hair instead of changing hair products?

I usually have my hair in a pixie cut. My hair just grows so fast.

Man here, but my wife is sitting right next to me and she has very long, luscious hair and has been doing this "sulphate, silicone free" thing for years. She uses this forum http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/content.php and tells me they have stickies with lists of products based on where you live, type of hair etc.

I use EO lavender shampoo and conditioner. Actually since the last time I ran out of shampoo, I have just been using bar soap (One With Nature Dead Sea soap). The conditioner is really light so I just leave it in and use it as a gel, rather than rinsing it out. I have really short hair though so this might not work for someone with long hair.

I use organic honey mixed with bicarbonate of soda to make a paste.
And then I rinse with vinegar for conditioner.

I use Giovanni products. Target now has this brand, our local health food store carries them. Have used the "Say Yes To" brand shampoos. They work ok, I like Giovanni better.

I don't know if you can get them but try the Organix branded shampoos & conditioners (there's several different one's available too, keratin, morroccan oil, coconut oil etc). I used another one ages ago too, it was a proper salon brand named Jeval Infusions and it had hemp seed oil in it, but I'm sure they have other ones to try.

There's also Loreal EverCreme but that stuff is available in every supermarket just about.

Earth Science makes an olive oil and avacado shampoo and conditioner that is great. It's $7 for about a 6 oz bottle, but it's very concentrated, so you don't have to use a lot and it lasts a while.

If you have dry hair, like I do, I'd also recommend using oils (jojoba, coconut, etc., depending upon what works for you) as a treatment before shampooing.

It's also pretty easy to make your own dry shampoo using corn starch or tapioca starch (or cocoa powder, if you have dark hair) and a little essential oil for fragrance. There are different recipes and instructions out there for how to do this, if you google it.

Wen products don't have sulfates and the like but are pricey and change texture of hair greatly. It is nice "break".
I often paste my hair with Cumin, Henna and such so my hair just goes off now and then because my diet.
Wen will detangle and smooth, but might make your hair droop.

BTW I use Blue Duchess mane and tail show products most often.
