Around 12. That's about the average age, isn't it? I was very glad back then that I didn't have to start acting older just because my body "thought" I should now start being able to produce an infant.

I was 12 but just two months short of turning 13. Got it in August when it was still summer break -- very glad it didn't happen for the first time during school hours, that was my greatest fear!

The night of my 12th birthday.

It was NOT a good birthday gift.

I started mine at 13 years and 5 months, the day before the last day of my summer holidays. So I started year 9 with my first period, which was painful and quite heavy too, and it lasted a week and a half.

I don't think there is any correlation between your neurological profile and your age at menarche -- at least I haven't seen any research that seems to link the two.

As someone else pointed out above, 12 seems to be about the average age for menarche in most girls. The exceptions are the athletic ones, of course.
