Women who aren't hairy, please don't reply on here as this is about the PAIN of being a woman with a lot of body hair.

I envy you women who never have to wax and whose legs are hair free or light-haired more than you can ever know.

I hate being cursed with being hairy. It gets me down a lot and makes me feel like a freak, as if I didn't already what with being autistic.

I would like some solidarity from other women who have excessive body hair. Who actually have dark hair that shows if they don't remove it.

Six years ago I decided to start waxing, age 25, because I was so unhappy about my leg hair. I'd been using the hair removal cream for a long time, but it only made my hair worse.

I had become suicidal just about my hair body alone, because it seemed so abnormal and bad.

I was scared of the pain but I really wanted to take drastic action on it.

I've been waxing ever since and am overall feeling much better about my legs as the hair has decreased over time.

But it still gets me down. I get hair on the backs & insides of my thighs as well as my lower legs.

Every time I see women at the pool or wherever else their legs are out, they look smooth and hair free. That gets me down. I feel abnormal

Any similar stories SO welcome

A 2016 Mintel study reported that between 2013 and 2016, the percentage of women who shaved their legs fell from 92 to 85 percent.

Thanks for link but that doesn't address the issue I was raising.

I didn't post about body hair removal as I openly said that I diligently remove mine.

I really am interested in testimonies from other women who are significantly hairy and have struggled with this, whether they remove it or not

Well I have a bit of hair...and I did shave it for a while. But honestly I feel a lot more comfortable not shaving my body hair. I mostly get it on my lower legs but I also have rather crazy arm-pit hair. Right now I am having a struggle about if in the summer when the pool at my apartment opens if I should shave up regardless of comfort...or just go out there and swim with my hair. I mean for my legs I only really get visible hair from my knee down so I shave that sometimes. Recently tried to shave my armpits and regretted it because it got all itchy there and felt really uncomfortable. IDK I might just have to brave going to the pool with my arm-pit monsters intact, because I freaking hate shaving my arm-pits. But...well lets just say I get more and thicker arm-pit hair than my boyfriend I also have darker hair so I suppose that makes it more visible.

But also I get a little extra hair around my belly-button, never shaved it because I worry about it getting or looking thicker. But yeah I prefer not to shave, I do still worry about how people may react...that is why I am debating whether or not to shave before going into the pool in the summer. I'd prefer not to and just go out and enjoy myself without caring if anyone judges me negatively for it....but I admit not sure if I can do it, but I want to.

I'd say brave it and screw what people think if your preference is to not remove the hair.

I said I hate the hair so much that I wax diligently, so for me I don't want the hair to be seen too much; but I mostly wax for myself as I dislike the look and feeling of it

I hope there are more women on here who have struggled with excess body hair, and I'm not utterly alone

However, many women are socialized to remove the hair on their legs. The reasons are complicated and messy, but rest assured that smooth hairless legs are completely unnatural for the vast majority of women.

It is expensive and painful, but dark hair can be permanently removed with lasers if you have light skin.

Similar to waxing is to use an epilator, a device with tiny tweezers to pull out hair.

I fear I would never be able to afford laser hair removal, and lack the organisational skills to get to appointments.

Luckily every year that one waxes, the hair does decrease a bit more. It's slow, but I guess that's something

Where on your legs do you get it?, if you feel comfortable answering. Do you shave or wax it or otherwise?

Thank you

Total curse! If it was evenly hairy I might get used to it but why does it stop in certain parts and go fine and light? It's partly a sensory issue. It is normal though. Have you tried bleaching? I'm fascinated by how women have nice hair when they've finished after the pool. What seems normal is because we/women do hours of beauty routines. I don't for now but that's a longer story.

I have dark hair and light olive skin that is very sensitive and dry on my legs. So waxing and shaving is out of question.

Me too. I am forever shaving my legs all the time, but it takes ages and one wrong move and then I have to try and stop the bleeding lol. My arms and armpits are thankfully not that hairy so I don't have to shave them too often, but my legs are like a forest.

Never tried bleaching, although if the hair was naturally blond it might bother me far less

I hate having hair on my body especially on my armpits and lady area though my partner is not bothered as long as I am happy but I feel unclean for some reason when I am hairy.

Thankfully i got a partner who helps me with shaving places where I struggle I also use Veet on my legs and lower stomach to remove the odd stray hair.

This isn't simply typical to having a lot of body hair- I cannot shave so I have a lot, really most people aren't staring at your body hair, and anyone who would really needs a life.

What you seem to describe, getting suicidal from it especially, is body dysmorphia.

I am a very hairy woman. I gave up shaving ages ago though except for my face and my armpits. I shaved my face because in the work I do I can't have hair there. I shave under my armpits because I have a hormone issue that already causes me to have more body odor that most people and I stink even worse when I have hair under my armpits. It doesn't really bother me though. I don't really care what people think about my furriness
