I used to twirl me hair at school, mainly cos I was bored out of my mind. Now I just love to run my hand through my hair a lot - even at work, feels so soft - and it's great to make sure the ONLY part of my hair touching my skin is the root (except the covering of the ear)

Time to vote now :D

Resurrecting this thread.. I used to do this too.

My aspie daughter does this. My question is, how do I deal with it in school? Her teacher isn't happy about the hair chewing/twirling. Her OT tried to use a chewy necklace but #1 kids made fun of her and #2 she hates the feel of it on her neck.

Any ideas? They say its impacting her learning. :( I'm guessing its a stim. She does it when she's more nervous I've noticed.

No, I actually paid zero attention to my hair that it was often full of knots! My mom constantly twirls and chews on her hair. She may have AS too.

One of my friends has this habit of twirling her hair. At one point, I couldn't stop mimicking her whenever she did it. I'm so glad I'm over that.

Chewed it, all the time, and as of now considering getting back in the habit.

I would chew my hair a lot. I don't remember twirling it, but I probably did that too.

Definitely still twirl it. Used to suck on it as a kid - but there are too many products in it these days. :eew:

The funny thing is the relationship gurus say its a sign of flirting. Ha! I try not to do it in public, but I always catch myself doing it.

I used to eat my hair sometimes... it is amazing that I never suffered a hairball!

I only twisted it while it was in multi-braids, but I sniffed it constantly until l ended high school.

Used to twirl it, still do sometimes when I'm nervous. Used to chew it (I liked to hear the crunch between my teeth), but don't chew it anymore. I'm not sure why I don't chew it anymore, other than I grew out of that. When I chewed my hair when I was a kid, my mom would tell me it would give me worms. Of course, it never did. :D
