Loool! Hell Yeah!

I twirl, like, 24/7, but smelling and chewing is a secret pleasure. There is nothing quite like the flavour and texture of freshly chewed hair! :D

Chewed my hair all through Elementary School.

Started twirling my hair at the end of elementary through middle school, I believe.

I'm very picky about the position of my hair and it has to fall just right, be in the same place, etc. I walk around stiffly 'cause I don't like the feeling of it moving.

oh my gosh. all the time. Up until 5th or 6th grade I would constantly chew my hair in class whenever I was thinking and especially whenever I got up to turn a paper in or get lunch or something to help calm my nerves. I'm 15 now and I don't chew my hair so much any more, but I still twirl it though. I also constantly scratch my scalp to get rid of dead skin and shampoo that I didn't get out somehow for some reason.

I used to chew my hair when I was little. Now I just twirl it when I'm feeling anxious.

I still twirl my hair but I didn't knew I chewed my hair until grade 8 because I wasn't aware when I was doing it. I had a boy point it out to me in class one day and I was like "really? That's weird....". lol.

I was never allowed to have long hair as a child (long story), but when I finally did at about 14 or so, I started doing this, and have done ever since. I don't chew it, but I twirl a lot, and I run it against my lips, twist it into loops, and generally just play with it. It's so relaxing and comforting and just.. yeah. I love doing this. :D

Chewed on my hair all the time as a kid, when I stopped chewing (started finding saliva-wet hair disgusting at some point) I twirled ... but doesn't everybody do that?

Nowadays I mainly chew my lips, seems to be more socially acceptable. :P

There are people that don't?

I still do. Not as much though. But I have great fun twirling my hair and stuff.

I think it depends on intensity/frequency, like most stims. Many NT people will flap their hands when extremely excited, or pace up and down when extremely agitated, or rock back and forth when extremely upset, or hum when they're bored. There isn't a clear dividing line between AS stims and non-AS stims, as it's just a matter of frequency/intensity (and reason, of course).
