A note on the vaccine - there are many, many strains of HPV, some of which are dangerous and some which our bodies naturally fight off and have no effect. The vaccine protects us against some of the worst ones, but not all of them. Regardless of whether you have one strain of HPV, it's a great idea to get the vaccine anyway!
True. Also, and some people don't seem to realize this...you don't have to have slept around to get HPV. You just have to have had sex, and if you've only ever had sex with one guy, you still might have caught it from him.
Most women have one strain or another at some time in their lives...with the exception of nuns.
My top tip: Get to know your normal cycles - how long and heavy your periods are, changes in mucus mid-cycle when you ovulate, how you feel pre-menstrually, all that stuff. That way, you're better primed to be alert for anything unusual down there that could need checking out. Also, having some idea of when you're fertile is obviously helpful if and when you want to get pregnant. (I don't, for one, believe it's a great method of
contraception, but others may disagree.)
Other than that, obvious stuff: move in a way you enjoy, stay hydrated, eat some of those green things that grow in the ground, get your Paps, check your boobs, keep an eye on any moles, and be highly sceptical of health statistics, especially if whoever came up with them is trying to sell you something. Oh, and before you consider going on a weight loss diet, Google 'Health At Every Size' and prepare to have your eyes opened. Is all.
