Never tried waxing b/c my mother thought it'd hurt me  . Is it like using a giant bandaid when you rip the paper/whatever off? Also, the reason I never tried waxing is b/c I don't know how long your hair has to be to do it or how often it can be done (once a month?). Though I'm considering it b/c I'd have shorter showers :D. Besides shaving & menstrual issues I have issues with nail care beyond clipping (can't ever make 'em look nice).

I also don't shave my armpits, because I think the hair exists there for a reason and I feel bald and awkward when I do occasionally shave it....I do not want to be a slave to my body hair, so I tend to leave it alone.

Keeping track of my menstrual cycles is easy...I have 2 menstrual cycles that happen back to back and take up half the month. The first one starts around the 12-15th...and I just barely spot for a while and then it stops only to be followed by a complete bloodbath of a period that continues till the end of the month.

I hope you have spoken to a doctor about this- it sounds rather awful and they have prcedures that can help.

As for leg hair- I suggest Veet or Nair if you can stand it. I got some for my daughter, who is about to turn 11. She used it for a while but it hurts, so I let her shave now, and she is very careful. I know most moms don't let their girls shave that early but she has freaking fur and it is embarrassing for her.

For my armpits, I use my Emjoi, which pulls the hairs out very quickly. It take several weeks for them to grow back. This is so much better than painful rashes in the armpits. It sounds painful to pull the hairs, but this device does not hurt much at all in that area.

For those who have a hard time shaving, use a nice razor- with 4-5 blades in the head (i use 5 with the Venus) and shave with no pressure- just glide the razor- no pushing whatsoever. If ankles are still a problem get an Emjoi for them or another type of epilator.

There is a spot on the outside of my left ankle that doesn't grow hair anymore because I shaved the skin off there so many times with a razor. Talk about painful! Never cut myself anywhere else, not even the same spot on the other leg. I don't shave my legs anymore though, I've grown to really like my leg hair and leg shaving seems pointless to me now.

For anyone wanting to keep track of their periods, check out this site : http://mymonthlycycles.com/

It's really great, all you have to do is add the first day of your period and after you have a couple in there it will average out how long your cycles are and you can set it to email you when your period is most likely to be due. You can also track symptoms, which I have found helpful because it's helped me predict on my own when a period might be coming. And there's all sorts of fertility stuff too that I haven't really looked at. For a free site, it's pretty darn helpful.

I used to have trouble shaving my ankles, but since putting on weight it is easier, since there is more padding around the ankle bones. I do have to sit to shave them now, though. The new razors they make are always increasing the number of blades they put in them, so the "head" of the razor gets bigger and wider, which I find makes shaving even easier.

I've cut myself shaving a few times. It doesn't bother me though, because for some reason it doesn't hurt.

I have trouble keeping track of my periods because they're irregular. For awhile they came at the end of one month/beginning of the next. Then they started coming around the middle of the month. Now they're back to coming at the end. And that's not even mentioning all the times I've skipped periods; I think the longest I've gone without one was when I skipped 3 months in a row, about a year or two ago.

This is how I learned about astrology. (Hey! :D stick with me here, I am going someplace with this) I found my menses was connected to the moon, not the calendar. As I charted how the moon moved through it's quarters I could better figure out where my period was going to happen. Also, much research has been done to find when other menstruating women live in close proximity to each other they start cycling together. (It is olfactory, evidently, so it works more in a sorority/dorm type setting than an apartment building) Knowing these factors kept me more or less attuned to what 'time of the month' it was or was going to be.

I like razors and find the metal, and the fineness of razors fascinating (I'm not into self injury, btw). So I'm pretty good with them. I'd love to shave a man's head with a straight razor.

I am definitely syched up with the moon and always have been. The solar calendar is rubbish for me in that regard. I watch the moon and can see when it's coming. I also feel differently as the month cycles so that I just have subtle thoughts and feelings that let me know it's coming. I also have dreams that foretell its arrival.

I read that lots of babies are born around the full moon because of the gravitational pull which I thought was interesting. I was born a day and a half before it.

Shaving is always risky for me, my motor skills are dreadful. Once when I was 17 I changed the blade in my razor, but forgot that that mean I didn't have to go as hard as before... Ended up taking a huge strip of skin off my shin. I've been extra careful since.

I used to be terrible with my periods. I never kept track of them and could never tell when they were going to come. I've gotten better since losing my virginity, though. Also, I can now tell when one's on the horizon because I experience about 2days of accute nausea beforehand.

My legs are all over old scars from ill fated attempts to shave them. Nowadays I just let them be hairy for as long as possible, then I use some sort of sticky paper. But for the most part I wear trousers now.

I can even cut myself with an electric lady shave, so don't feel bad about it.

Regarding periods, even though mine are incredibly painful, and regular, I still get caught short. Sometimes I'm so depressed before my period that I don't equate the pain with anything other than wanting to die, and I'll wake up bleeding thinking, "not again." That's twenty two years, and I still have trouble.

So no, you're not alone.

my dear sisters in menses. they do go away. they truly do. After the shock and awe of the onset of menopause and the seemingly endless struggle of getting over it one enters into a calmness of the spirit. No longer the monthly stresses and hormones flares and the carnal urges that dominate the mind. Crone-ness is a relief and its own reward. I haven't longed for my period since I stopped. Not once. Not once!

But thank you... I must admit, I'm looking forward to my menopause, and have been from the age of sixteen.

I actually don't mind my period and find the mental state and flux to be quite thought provoking. When it comes I get so sleepy and enter into a type of sleep that nothing else brings. I've had some profound spiritual experiences related to my period, too. Among Hawaiians, menstruation is a wonderful, very powerful presence (male, western missionaries would have you believe otherwise). The culture is matriarchal and matrilineal, so that which is truly feminine is held in high regard. Traditionally, someone else would prepare all your food during your period and you would rest. It is still today considered such powerful energy that if a woman is on her period and has to go to see Pele, she has to wear ti leaf leis around her neck, wrists and feet which neutralizes the threat of her power in a sign of respect.

All that said, Merle, your writing on the crone and its manifestation is beautiful. I look forward to that part of my life as well.

Shaving is very unpleasant, but I usually don't cut myself shaving.

I can never predict my periods because they've always been unpredictable. Sometimes it's 20 days, others it's 40 days before my period arrives. However soon I'll be going on a pill that will stop this and my raging PMS.

Last time I was at the doctor, I had a conversation that went like this:

"When was the first day of your last menstrual cycle?"

"Um..."

"It doesn't have to be exact, just an estimate."

"Ah....I'm...not sure."

"Two weeks ago? Three?"

".........no idea."

I never thought it could be Aspergers-related.
