Excellent! Same as Remifemin. Are you in the USA? I am sticking with using this stuff myself. It's really helped me too.

Thanks for the Remifemin reccomendation too...I had never heard of it...I'll see how it goes with my Estroven and if not, I'll check into that...or maybe check it next month and see which one is better. Thanks again!

It's exactly the same active ingredient, black cohosh, just marketed under a different brand name and your brand has added extra things. Just so everyone is aware you should only take Black Cohosh products as recommended as at higher (or not clinically tested and measured) doses, some women have experienced liver problems (one died by taking 500 mg per day). The recommended dosage on Remifemin is 20 mg 2x daily up to 40 mg 2x max @ 80 mg total.

I wouldn't take prepared black cohosh through herbalists or as a supplement on its own because of this. It's very, very rare but it's worth knowing about.

Yikes! I was taking an herbal supplement of black cohosh at 540 per day! For about a month. I will stop immediately. My God, ignorance can be a dangerous thing, indeed!

I'm sure glad you found this information! I wonder why they have a supplement on the market with so much black cohosh in it when there are so many studies done?

I don't know why. BTW, it was CVS brand black cohosh. I was feeling symptoms that didn't make sense to me; extremely dry eyes, stomach pain, nausea, and dizziness. I hope these symptoms go away, now that I have stopped taking it. And it was having absolutely no positive effect on my menopause symptoms. If anything, I was having an increase in hot flashes. :x

Geez that's a real worry. If it's possible you might get to the doctor and have your liver enzymes tested just to be on the safe side. Stomach pain, nausea and dizziness can actually be gall bladder attack which is connected to the liver. Those things can cause you to have hot flash type symptoms. I'm so glad you read this. If I were you I would go to the doctor and just have a once over with some blood tests to err on the side of caution. Good luck and I hope your symptoms go away. Drink heaps of water (2 liters a day if you can) to try to flush it out of your system.

I am definitely drinking tons of water, and weak green tea. I just had a panel of blood work done, before I started taking the black cohosh, and am not sure my insurance will pay for another so soon. :( But I am seeing an acupuncturist, who will be able to advise me on herbs to nourish the liver and help me heal from this error. I wonder if I should contact CVS and tell them that they shouldn't carry such large dosages of black cohosh? I wonder if they would even care. :?

Well, I saw my acupuncturist today. I told him about the black cohosh, and he had me start taking milk thistle, which will help the liver to detox from the other herb. He too, advised drinking lots of water. He predicted that it would probably take a month to clear this stuff out of my system. What a scare!

G'day Mary,

Imagine how it feels at 38! :D

Last year I started researching perimenopause as I noticed an increase in menopausal symptoms in my body and hormones. I think I started peri in 2006 and expect to start menopause next year. It's awful trying to talk to doctors and specialists about it. They don't believe it's possible this young and dismiss everything I say regarding it.

Meltdowns and breakdowns happen every week. I have even admitted myself to hospital so I didn't kill myself.

And hair! Since peri began I have turned into Magilla Gorilla. :D I have a few pictures of bearded women saved on the computer and I look at them when I feel all self-conscious of my facial hair. It helps.

Metabolism change is worse than night sweats and hot flashes though.

I have had doctors offering me drugs for hormones, depression, weight, sleep, anxiety... but under no circumstance will I ever touch them. If I lost my imagination I would die.

Sometimes I visit Dee Adams website to lighten my mood and find more information.
