Pads. I tried to put a tampon in once but it hurt and I chickened out.

For the first few years of my menstrual life, I used pads. Tampons scared me, but when I finally gave them a go, I was so glad I did.

There's one major brand that doesn't work for me, and that's Tampax. They never sit right and are too long and skinny. Anything else works. So for those who've only tried one brand and didn't like it, I suggest giving other brands a go if you haven't yet. There are differences.

I still use mini pads on light days. The best thing about tampons over pads is they don't smell. And, boy, do I hate that smell!

I started teaching swimming classes right after my period started (I started on the late side). There was no way I could wear pads while swimming! After the first time I tried a tampon, I was completely lost as to why ANYONE would wear a pad! I only wear them if I run out of tampons in the middle of my period, and only as long as it takes to drive to the drug store and back. This may gross some women out, but one thing I have noticed is that sometimes I have to adjust a tampon with a finger to make it comfortable. I use OB (no applicator) anyway, so to me using a finger to shift the tampon to a comfortable spot is no big deal, but I'm sure some women would have real trouble with that, especially during a period. Putting one leg up high (like on a sink or counter, knee bent above the foot) really helps with settling it in the right sport the first time. If you are wearing a tampon right, you shouldn't be able to feel it at all -- not as pain or pressure. They don't always go in right, applicator or not, so if you can, just try adjusting it until you can't feel it. Just remember to take it out after 4 to 6 hours!

I didn't use tampons for like 7 years, but once I finally did I realized how uncomfortable pads are. I love me some tampons.

Tampons! I don't like pads, they stink and I hate to feel something wet between my thighs.
I use also mini pads, because my periods are really light, so sometimes even mini tampon is too much.

I don't really like tampons. I only use them for swimming, so pads.

Pads. The idea of sticking something in my body where it doesn't belong is icky to me. (This also goes for contact lenses and earrings.) I'm tentatively thinking of switching to cloth reusable pads, but I'm not sure I have the follow-through to actually wash them.

i also have trouble with contact lenses (not a big problem with piercings) and tampons felt foreign for a very long time (never mind having guy parts in there - took YEARS to get used to that feeling, though of course i still enjoyed it to a degree).

i can use tampons, but i don't like it at all. i can feel the string, if not the whole tampon. plus my vag muscles sometimes force the tampon right out if i am engaged in vigorous physical activity. this really hurts if it is a fresh tampon... it feels like it is scraping.

I did not have anything heavy in those days. I will say this though to newbies, use the applicator ones and use reg first unless your tiny. I think I had experienced toxic shock from using a jumbo cause I was at a friends house and didn't think anything of it. I got home and suddenly nausea came over me and a hellacious fever. I quickly took it out and things went back to normal. Phew, scary stuff. I still prefer tampons over pads but sometimes its better to be safe than sorry.

Scary stuff. That's why I wear pads at night. I tend to oversleep (especially on the weekends). But during the day, I can't abide the feel of a pad--like a diaper. Makes you realize how lucky we are to even have this choice though? Back in my mom's day there weren't such options.

yeah, technologyhas chenged even in my lifetime. when i first got my period, adhesive pads were not so common, and not sticky enough so they would not adhere reliably. we would wear belted pads at night. not fun.

I use pads because I'm scared of putting things into my vagina. I'm afraid I'll end up causing severe damage to myself or that it'll fall out or that I won't be able to get it back. >.<

Just take it out every 2-6 hours and you'll be golden. They don't hurt at all and you don't really have to worry about staining or anything like that. Tampons won't fall out either. They expand when they get moistened, and you have to pull a tiny bit hard for it to come out. The string is very very veryyy strong though. :) Tampons are also less expensive.

I love tampons. Now I'm not even all that disappointed when my period comes.

Mooncups seem cool but I don't think we have them in America. :pale: Maybe online?? :)

I know people keep telling me that but I'm still scared of using them. Probably because I've never had anything in my vaj before. That and mom says that you're only supposed to use them after you lose your virginity. So if I were to start using them, she'll assume I've become a whore. D:

I've heard of sooo many girls experiencing pain with tampons so I know it would happen to me since I'm super-sensitive down there. :(
