I was diagnosed a couple years ago after a three hour long interview. My husband actually figured out I have it and attended the diagnostic interview with me. Since they needed to know about my early childhood development to rule out language delays and such, I took in a photocopy of mom's notes from that time period. I didn't have to take any tests, but had I been diagnosed through the first place I went to I would have had to take some computerized tests/evaluations.

My husband and I could easily see where I lined up compared to the diagnostic criteria and the people I saw didn't have any issues with me being female, married, able to drive a motorcycle, or make normal eye contact. (I bring those up because I've read about all those as excuses as to why one can't have Asperger's.) The first psychiatrist I spoke with called me textbook and high functioning before passing me on for diagnosis. He had me pegged within fifteen minutes.

How did your diagnosing go? You wrote about your first day, but what happened afterward?

yes, please, I would like to know also. I have an appointment in a week, and I'm getting nervous. I don't really know if I should bother. I have almost called to cancel a couple of times, and I know I'm gonna wanna pick up the phone and cancel about a hundred more times before my appointment finally gets here.... even though I hate talking on the phone.... oh, did I mention, I'm nervous?

I'd been in special ed. since about 4th grade and saw social workers since 1st grade. In kindergarten they thought I may have ADHD because I wouldn't follow instructions, pretended like I couldn't hear the teacher, and did my own thing. When I was 12 it was suggested I undergo a neuropsychological test. In all, it lasted over 8 hours. It was very time consuming which frustrated me and I had to take breaks. I didn't like having to go through all those fill in the bubbles questionaire and I didn't like the math parts either. The test determined that I had PDD-NOS. The teacher at the hospital and my social worker at school thought I seemed like I had Asperger's.
