Oh, yes, I know that now! But I was only 17 then and much more clueless than now (though I am still super clueless about life compared to other 30-somethings).

But I will never put fake nails on again! I can't even stand my nails being long, I immediately bite them off.

Maybe you have a microperforated, cribiform, or septate hymen.

I don't know what that means, but something is wrong up there. More than 1 finger hurts tremendously.

Tightness isn't a constant state it'll only be tight if in a relaxed state and when you are tense, chances are you're suffering from vaginismus - my 'foster daughter' had the same problem, the above mentioned masturbation and muscle work will help with that, or therapy as vaginismus is often down to issues with having experienced pain in the past, sexual trauma, or sexual shaming.

Microperforated, cribiform, or septate hymen - diagrams [url=http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/Images/hymen_variations.jpg[/url] - hymen being tissue surrounding vaginal opening, it may be that the hymen hasn't much of a hole for the tampon to fit through or it has lots of little holes - you'd be able to see if the hymen is an issue if you examine yourself with a mirror, and in many cases the hymen can be stretched manually by inserting fingers/objects and using lubricant like olive oil.

Edit: Sorry didn't mean to post the hymen picture as a picture...typical the first time posting images works for me and it's THAT! 8O
Also sorry if being a bit too personal here, I know not everyone is so comfortable with such privet things.

There's been a lot of good advice said here already, don't feel like I can give much useful input.

I never liked them either, though. I've used some, but it just didn't feel comfortable. I don't want to spend the whole day thinking about how that thing jammed up me ladyparts is feeling really awkward - that kind of ruins your day... Pad's where it's at for me. They're comfortable, they're easy. And I for one don't give a crap about how it looks, some seem obsessed over that - but if someone's seeing anything related to them, they ought to be intimately close to me in the first place, in which case I don't care.

Try things though, there's many solutions out there. Don't be afraid to google and read about it, and try them :)

What sucks (one of the things) about the pads vs tampons thing is at night when sleeping. If I am in a light stage of sleep, I automatically wake up if I gush of blood comes out and I feel it run down my back end crack (I mostly sleep on my back or at a diagonal angle, so that's where gravity will carry the flow!) It's so annoying to wake up from that, as it disrupts my sleep pattern, which is extremely abnormal to begin with. But I guess being paranoid of staining clothes or bedsheets makes you sensitive to those types of things. Do any other ladies experience the same problem?

Wow, eww! No, my flow is never that heavy.

The worst feeling for me is just the stickiness. But I can deal with it for the 1st day.

I guess I am unlucky then. My cycle is so unpredictable. It can start super light or, like last time, I can cramp up and 4 hours later it's already heavy flow. A few months ago, I got cramps so bad, I got physically sick, fever and seats and all. it was horrible because I was at work! I'm a chasier!! You are lucky that yours is never that heavy. Just don't misunderstand me by what I said and think that it's like a fountain; that is not the case. If it were, I would have died long ago, haha.

With being "forced" - maybe a wrong choice of words, but it's for work. I work in a very male-dominated, physical job and one day at work, the stupid pad (which never seem to work on me) slid or something, and I got blood on my pants and could have died from embarrassment. I simply couldn't do the job having to duck-walk, paranoid the pad would leak, and running into the bathroom every half hour.

this post sounds like I could have written it

I hate relying on pads because it just feels so messy. I used to have a problem with tampons but I had to figure out how to put them in correctly (to put it bluntly I wasn't stickin em in far enough) but now it's all good. I've always been intrigued by the cups though and would be willing to try that out if I could find out where to buy them locally

edit: I feel compelled to add that brand & applicator makes a lot of difference, I used to use Playtex GentleGlide tampons a lot, and I was using CVS brand for a minute and they were hard to insert, being all long and cardboardy and all, but I stick with U by now just because the commercials crack me up

I hate pads. Hate hate hate! If I had trouble with tampons, I don't know what I do. I can't stand the sensation of a pad; I don't know how anyone can! It's even worse if I use the bathroom and don't have a spare; the very idea of getting dressed again without changing it makes me sick. I first used tampons when I had to for work -- I taught swimming classes, and there's no way you can wear a pad when you're in a pool for hours on end. (Maybe you can swim with a cup; I have no idea. They squick me out.) I had only had my period for a few months, and I was really nervous about trying a tampon. (See below for why; my mother told me her story when I first needed to use them.) To my happy surprise, I had no trouble at all! It was always, always tampons for me after that; I switched from tampax to OB when I was about 16 and I like that brand much more. (Honestly, I have found them far better than any other kind; they hurt less going in, they are less likely to leak, and have no applicator to fuss with. You may want to try different brands and see if that helps.)

It may indeed be that you have a hymen without the more usual hole in it; if that is a problem for you, there is minor outpatient gynecological surgery for it. My mother and my best friend both had this surgery -- my best friend told me that in fact it would have been really difficult for her to have sex, due to her hymen! (Frankly, the surgery sounds a lot better than losing it through sex, which hurts like hell and gets messy.)

Can you try adjusting the tampon once it is in you? I have to do that. I use the applicator-free OB brand, and often have to use my finger not just to insert, but to adjust the tampon so it's not uncomfortable and I can't feel it. Sometimes it slips and I can feel it -- I know that's as uncomfortable as hell! I can't imagine it doing any harm on my heavy days, it slides in easily. At times when my period is lighter, it can hurt a bit going in, but better than a pad. Also, try inserting it in different positions. Try squatting, with one foot on the toilet, with one foot on the counter, lying on your back, etc. Because your vagina angles back and not straight up, some of those positions can make it easier to get it in and settle it comfortably.

Or try a menstrual cup. But read up on them first. That's why I never bothered to try one; what I read squicked me out!

I think it is mainly because you are a virgin and not because of aspergers. Both of my NT daughters cannot wear tampons either and they have tried the smallest size available.

I have been using them since I was 17 and they were never a problem. They leak but I use pads under it or toilet paper. I can't feel them either and if I put them in wrong, I will feel it. It's a crampy like feeling. My mom tried them too in high school and they gave her cramps she said so she hasn't worn one since.

About pads, I used to hate wearing them too because they are messy and blood would get on my clothes. But birth control made them lighter and I no longer got menstrual cramps nor hot flashes. Then I started wearing toilet paper in my butt hole to stop the blood from going up my butthole and onto my panties. It worked.

Now I haven't worn a tampon in almost a year now because I don't get my period anymore.

And some women actually do wear a diaper for their periods because theirs is so heavy they feel more protected that way. I've used Goodnites for it when my periods get heavy when I forget to take my birth control pill.

My daughters prefer the Always pads with wings. The wings really seem to help prevent accidents.

hi,
i always had major problems with my period. this wasnt to do with tampons or pads but because of the actual period. mine was VERY heavy and VERYpainful. i would spend the whole of the first or second day laying down in pain and unable to move, it was awful. the way i found to help stop this horrible experience is birth control.

first i tried the implant, this is a small (2-3cm) skinny rod, placed just under the skin of the inside of your upper arm. it lasts for three to four years before you need to replace it but can be removed at any time. it stops you from becoming fertile every month and for many women it also stop periods. for me it did help in that my periods were generally much lighter and always MUCH less painful, but it also gave me very irregular periods with near constant spotting (random drops of blood not actually becoming a proper period). because of this i had it changed after just under two years.

i then moved on to the contraceptive injection which i have found to be immensly more suitable for me. since starting it i have had absolutly no periods or flow of any kind and, even better, no pain! it does mean that i have to get a small injection into my bottom every three months but really this is nothing, sooo much better than a period and definatley worth it for never having to deal with them again!

these arent the only forms of contraception that are known to stop or reduce periods but they were the most suited for me as i am way too scatty for the pill, it would be a miracle if i ever remembered to take the thing, and also i dont like the idea af the coil. ive spoken to people who have had it and they say its brilliant and they dont feel a thing but for me personally the idea of it is uncomfortable. also with all of these the affect on your fertility only lasts as long as you are using them. you can stop using them at any time, for any reason and return to full fertility straight away.

this doesnt help with advice on tampons but if its your periods thats are annoying you and you are not currently trying for a baby then i honestly think they are the best solution. you dont have to be sexually active to take birth control and its easy, simple, free, some types like the implant you just go in for ten minutes and then dont have to worry about it for years and no accidental spotting in front of male co-workers!

hope this helps :)

I cannot wear them at all and the last time I tried, I was 14. 8O Having my first pelvic exam was extremely painful too, I cringed the entire time. But then again, maybe that's because I'm still a virgin??
