If I could do things over, I would have had a full hysterectomy by the time I was 18.

I am considering having a hysterectomy in the next couple of years. My husband actually suggested it to me, because of the emotional anguish he knows I suffer with my period. He's very supportive of my "issues". I'm also going to have to get some work on my breasts. I went from 110 lbs, to my largest which was 230 lbs...and I am on my way to my goal weight of 130 now. Because I was nursing my son when I was at my heaviest, I had about a 48 inch chest. Needless to say, before I'm 30 years old, I will be sagging in places that my grandma isn't at 70.

I've heard good & bad about hysterectomies, but it's really a personal choice. However, when I was less than a year old, I had a partial one. I honestly wish they would have just removed my whole uterus at that time. I've had horrible periods where I would bleed so bad, I looked like I'd been stabbed, & the bathroom looked like a murder scene. I have sensory issues & the amount of blood & clotting I had to put up with just about made me throw up. I can't stand any of the female paraphernalia either. I am so over being female. The heavy bleeding happened a lot, & it was really embarrassing. I had a D&C a few years ago....it was supposed to be an ablation but with only half a uterus, they couldn't do it. That's when I found out I have 1/2 a uterus too.

It's great that your hubby is so supportive. :-) I hope you reach your goal weight, & look & feel better too. :-)

Wow that's interesting about your situation when you were a baby. I have never heard of that before. My periods have also been exceptionally heavy. The first 1-3 days I can't even leave my house because I will leak all over. I am hard pressed finding "supplies" that can hold my flow, and that I don't have sensory issues with as well...it's just awful and I feel for you too. I'm still laughing about the "murder scene" because I understand. I am so over being female as well, I strongly feel that getting rid of my period will be a huge leap forward in my mental health struggle.

I don't know why I have half a uterus. I'm sure my mother knew, but she never told me. She's gone now, so I'll never really have an answer. I also found out I have one ovary. Mom said one of my ovaries was herniated, which is why I had surgery (something else I never heard of at 11 months of age). She said they put it back, but maybe it was just absorbed into my body. Or maybe that's what they told her, or she could have just told me that so I wouldn't bug her after that. All I have is questions, but no real explanations. It does explain some of my physical oddities though.

As much as I have sensory issues, the only thing I found that would help with the extra heavy flow were multiple tampons used at the same time. I'd use as many as 4 at once along with a heavy duty pad. If I got them in there right, they were ok....they didn't bother me. If I didn't they drove me crazy, because of the discomfort. That happened a lot. Getting them out was no easy task though. I'm back to having periods again, this one has been going on for about a month. Can't use even the slimmest of tampons because I am too dry & they're very difficult to remove without serious pain. Right now, I'm back to pads. A woman that I know who's a nurse who worked in the emergency room used to use baby diapers instead of pads. She says they're super absorbent, & really do the trick when you're on your feet for a long time but can't leave the area. Never tried it, but it might work for you.

I like my breasts, my periods are annoying but tolerable since I don't get cramps. It sucks having to blow money on pads every month though. D:

I have actually considered using baby diapers at times, I still may try it. I can't do tampons, I usually do two overnight pads at once but I find I'm spending an insane amount of money.

Sorry, but if tampons and pads aren't enough for your flow, if tampons are an issue pain/comfort wise, or if you dislike the amount of money spent on tampons and/or pads...why don't you use something else?

You've got far more options than just tampons and pads, even if sticking with tampons and pads there is huge variation amongst different types, for example you may have better luck with sponge, soft, or wet tampons over commercial or organic tampons. If sticking with external protection then yes baby diapers, or also incontinence pads coupled with incontinence panties, period belts, or pads coupled with period panties, cloth pads would also safe money as well as be more comfortable and give better overnight protection.

Why not use a menstrual cup? They hold a lot more than tampons and pads, don't leak like tampons and pads, have no health risks so no TSS, infections or toxins to worry about, can be worn for 12 hours or at least twice as long as tampons/pads, unlike tampons cups are safe to wear overnight, cups can lessen flow, cups don't cause drying/friction or increased cramps, and cups cannot be felt.

Have you done anything to try to lessen your flow?
With heavy flow a doctor or specialist is always a good idea, more so with your particular issues to find out what has gone on in your past and to see if this has any effect on things now. But even if there is no underlying cause for the heavy flow there are still plenty of things you can do, many things you can do at home to lessen your flow; dietary changes, vitamins, herbal treatments, hormone regulation, and medication like tranexamic acid.

I did. Three years ago I went in for something called an ablation. They have a special tool that's designed to fit inside the uterus (provided it's normal), it's used to burn off the lining. Well, mine is not. Basically I have a uterus shaped like a tube. So the doctor decided to do a severe D&C instead. It threw me into instant menopause. So instead of periods I was having acute hot flashes that were also causing me severe sensory issues since the hot flashes combined with stress were causing me to nearly melt down many times a day. I can't win. To fix the major hot flashes which were aggravated by stress, I started HRT. So now I'm back to bleeding. I can't use a tampon because it adheres itself to the vaginal walls...feels like I used superglue to insert it/keep it in place. I am having to wear pads. Mind you, it's not as bad as it was 3 years ago because I don't have the intense blood flow, but this one has been continuous since early May...just about 4 weeks.

I doubt a moon cup would help at this point. Maybe if I'd have been able to get around the massive blood flow/large clots before I had the D&C, I could have tried it. I am sick of having a uterus. It's broken, & it's a useless organ at this stage in my life. I wish the doctor would have removed it either when I was 11 months old, or 3 years ago. Either way, I would not have to deal with it now.

LOL Never say never. I used to think like that & I ended up using as many as 4 at one time. 8O But then my body is not normal unfortunately.

I'm quite happy being a girl, in spite of sensory issues with bras and menstruation. I used to really hate being female, as well as acknowledging any 'gender-typical' tendencies of mine; this was largely because I hated the cultural association between females or femininity and intellectual inferiority. Adopting feminist beliefs and finding a relationship were the main factors in easing this hostility...

For me it is the whole fact of getting a period. My physical sex is extremely upsetting to me, and I can't imagine putting a cup inside there, or having cloth that I have to wash with blood on it. I basically lock myself in my house, layer on the disposable pads and sit there and wait for it to go away. The whole period is almost more than my brain can handle, and I honestly can't imagine trying more options to control the flow. Actually even thinking and typing about it is making me agitated mentally and physically. I'm hoping that as I lose weight it will help the flow, and perhaps I will try vitamins or talk to my health care provider about other medications. Thank you very much for your suggestions, your posts are always very informative.

I do NOT think that it's gross to be a female, but I hate having my period every month because I do NOT like to see blood. :(
