Vegan.

It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm a very happy vegan.

My vegan diet is one of the few things that are left for me to be happy about.

My diet is not very healthy though because I tend to go heavy on carbohydrates and sugar. Always have done. It's not weird, really, because most people do that. Pasta, pizza, sweets...

No, I'm just constantly criticized over what I eat because I'm fat. Even by people I don't know. They don't know that the burrito I'm eating is the first time I've gone out to eat in months but they assume I eat fast food all the time because I'm not skinny.

I know how you feel...

It's pretty unfair.

If you're fat, people can decide for you. Because obviously you don't know what's "good for you". They all bore me. My favourite is, "But I am worried about your health", while they (other women) are only repeating what they have been brainwashed with all their lives.

They don't try to help you. They just make you feel bad.

My real problem is my aversion towards sports. I need to work that one out. But it has nothing to do with what I eat whatsoever.

I LOVE pickles. Yum. I rarely care about what I eat. But, I USUALLY have a preference for eating chicken with my meals. Breaded chicken- not grilled. I hate grilled.

Because I've been eating healthy for so long, when I eat junk food I feel sick. I had candy corn the other day and was like "Why am I eating this? It taste terrible and it's gross."

I hate it when people say "Don't deny yourself of what you really want to eat." It's not that I deny myself, I just prefer to eat healthy. Treating myself doesn't work for me, because when I do treat myself I go overboard.

It really all depends on the individual. If you one of those everything in moderation people that's fine. If your like me and have to say no or else you pay a price, that's fine. It's your choice what you eat. As long as you don't resort to an eating disorder or start eating unhealthily.

Note: I am plus sized, but I don't consider myself "fat" by any means. I hate that word.

I have lactose intolerant issues so even though I love cheese and ice cream a great deal I no longer have them scept cheese made of soy or swiss and I drink soy milk because lactose free milk spoils too fast. I LOVE crunchy food and spicy food, even spicy chocolate and I love onions and my roomates hate it. My fav sandwiches are BLT with extra onions or Peanut butter and onion sammiches yuum.

I love crunchy food above all others and even burn my toast usually, that's how I like it best.

I love salads made out of fresh celery carrots, coli-flour and broccoli with dressing and croutons. And popcorn is my fav chip-like snack other than Doritos and tostitos

I do not think I have that great of a concept of healthy eating, and my roomates are always telling me I need to eat healthier.

Am I the only Aspie who can eat and digest almost anything, is not on any "special diets", does not have any real unpleasant reactions to certain food or ingredients, and any foods I dislike is a personal taste only? (I know I should eat fish three FREAKING times a day, but I can't stand the smell, taste, and tiny bones, and I worry about mercury poisoning, and no amount of brainwashing will convince me that it is delicious).

No, I'm like this too. I have texture issues with a very few foods, but that's about it. I may be different because I wasn't given a choice in what I could eat growing up. I had a vegan diet for a year and I noticed no noticeable difference in anything emotional, psychological, neurological, etc. I've never gone gluten free but I have gone dairy free (both during the vegan diet and then later). Again, no noticeable difference.

Cuisine is also one of my special interests, so that may make matters different.

We're all different here, which is both interesting and confounding. Some people here talk about the comfort of things like getting massages and manicures, and I shudder because I absolutely cannot abide stranger touch. {shrug} I think very few people here can claim for certain, "I am more Aspie than thou!" though it does seem like an implied contest at times.

If I remember correctly, I have almost every symptom of Celiac disease, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't go gluten free. I'm a pretty picky eater. It's not that I want to be, I wish I liked more foods, but it's not worth making myself nauseous trying to force myself to like something. I think I might be able to do dairy free. Does it have to be an all-or-nothing thing or does it help to cut it out mostly, but have the occasional scoop of ice cream, say once a month for example? If that's the case I might try cutting down on gluten foods, but the problem is those are usually the cheap kinds of foods and I'm a broke college student. I guess it's all about trying to find a balance between budget and health.

Hi

I really wouldn't recommend cutting out gluten most of the time but having the occasional treat. I've been off gluten for about three years now, and when I accidentally eat some, my body reacts violently. I was warned that once you cut it out the slightest bit might make you ill, so I'm afraid it is all or nothing. sorry!

Yeah, found that out the hard way last night. I've been doing dairy free since Monday, and for once I hadn't cheated at all. Last night I went to a movie with my friend and she bought a bunch of candy to share. Long story short, I ate half a Snickers bar. I figured it wouldn't matter since I hadn't been going without it for that long, but I was wrong. Within 10 minutes my stomach was growling at me, and when I woke up this morning, eczema was breaking out all over my face like it used to all the time.

Other than that though, I feel great. I don't think I've eaten this healthy my entire life. I really think I could do this for the rest of my life. And secretly I like having an excuse to not eat foods I don't like, like lasagna and random mystery-ingredient casseroles 8)

To anyone who has issues with gluten, please get tested if possible for celiac disease.

It's not something to play around with, there can be very serious consquences to it. It is known to cause stomach and bowel cancer, interfere with pancreas and liver function and screw with your immune system in general and can lead to other autoimmune diseases. 97% of celiacs are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. If in doubt, get tested.

I'm not on a special diet - any sort of special diet that means I would have to remove a whole food group would not work for me as I am so limited in what I eat already. I find trying new things very difficult (sometimes impossible) so I only eat the food that I had as a child. I try and eat healthily, luckily I wasn't introduced to a lot of unhealthy things as child so I don't eat them - I've never eaten a burger, for example and I can't eat ready meals either.

I can happily eat the same things all the time and had the same soup for lunch every day for 8 years until they changed the recipe. People do comment on my diet so I try to avoid social situations where there will be food. I am going to a wedding in July and I am not looking forward to the sit down meal as I probably won't manage any of it. It's a bit frustrating, but there are much worse issues a person could have and overall I am happy with my diet.
