I've had my hair all lengths, most natural colors and I've had it permed at different lengths too. Now, I just don't have the patience for long hair and I hate growing it out so... it's super short and the only thing I can really do with it is spike it. It's not my favorite thing but...

My mom wants me to have longer hair. She attributes really short hair (especially spiky, like mine) to lesbians. This doesn't seem to be the same in the black community as far as I can tell. They don't have an issue with women with really short hair.

My fiancee doesn't say much, but he does prefer long hair. I've been thinking of growing it out but... I'll hate it the whole time, be uncomfortable with myself because of it and not like the way it looks. I'm not really sure what to do.

I see nothing wrong with short hair. I think some have it too short like a guy but it looks fine on certain people. I know it wouldn't look good on me. I have shoulder length hair because long hair is too much work for me. It gets messy too easily and it's too hard to brush, it gets too many knots and it's so hard to get out. Plus it hurts too. Even conditioner doesn't seem to work. But with short hair, no problem so I keep it short. Plus it stays neater too.

My hair is long again, after cutting it really short about 11 months ago. I get dirty looks from my mom whenever I want to do something drastic with it. I mean, come on! It's just hair!

My face is kinda oval-shaped, and I have broader shoulders. I guess I could go either way with long hair.

what a jerk!
short hair can be so adorable and if you like it, if it makes you feel good, someone who purports to love you shouldn't tear you down

also, that was kinda homophobic

I think your BF was joking. Otherwise he's too rude. I know most men like long hair on women but it's just hair, he should love your regardless. What's this long hair drag down face thing? Maybe this is regional? Nearly all women here have medium to long hair and they suit their faces just fine. (Although if you live here you'll really stand out with the pixie. :) )

Most men seem to like long hair on women, but then they don't have to grow it out and deal with it either.

Men should like their girlfriends/wives regardless of the length of their hair... but they like what they like. Short hair isn't likely to get rid of a guy unless the relationship was really shallow but they don't seem to be much into long hair. I figure if they like that much, they can grow their own hair out and deal with it themselves.

That's what I said when DH asked me to grow my hair long. :D So he agreed and started growing his hair out from a typical guy's cut. Then I agreed, too and grew my hair out. His hair grew much faster than mine, but mine is easier to take care of. We now maintain waist to hip length hair.

I still think the BF is silly. Hair will grow longer again and there's no point arguing about it.

I admit that I generally prefer long hair on women. There are, however, a few girls who really look better with short hair.

In any case, if my boyfriend ever said that to me, he would have been my boyfriend. What an idiotic statement, even as a joke.

Well, he's being ridiculously unreasonable and if I were you I'd probably have gotten to the point where I refused to even discuss the subject. It's your hair, you're the one that has to take care of it (live with it). Too bad if he doesn't like it.

I think that's because African-American hair is ridiculously hard to care for, so a lot of black woman just keep their hair short.

I have long hair, and think I would look better with it than short hair. I often wonder why do many girls want short hair, sometimes it suits them, sometimes it doesn't.
