Do you have a medical doctor? A thorough physical could help toward getting an accurate diagnosis, or steer you away from an incorrect diagnosis. Many times it's difficult to see which symptoms are Autism-ASP and which are allergies, hearing problems, eye problems etc. Going to the doctor can be very anxiety provoking, and some are just as ignorant about AS as many psychologists, but ask an AS group in your area, or anyone you trust, to refer you to an open-minded doctor. I was once in the same predicament (bad psych. care) and went to a medical doctor instead, who immediately saw that I had sleep problems, and prescribed a light sleep aid. The results were dramatic!

And yes! Females are finally being diagnosed! Our symptoms are different than males. Hang in there - don't accept poor or negligent treatment.

From my own experience and what I've heard of others, your experience is not unusual. Your psychologist or whatever you said he was, is clearly more behind the times than most professionals. There are a lot of other professionals out there. If one is not helpful, try another. You shouldn't have to but... that's just the way it was. The first professional I tried to go to for a diagnosis never got around to diagnosing me so after realizing that I went to another and got what I needed, a confirmation, a diagnosis of Aspergers.

You could confront your psychologist, but I don't think that would help. He's ignorant and is not open minded enough to want to learn.

It seems that spectrumites (those on the Autism spectrum somewhere) either get resistance to being diagnosed on the spectrum and/or get misdiagnosed. With this kind of thing, you really need to keep pushing to reach your goal. Don't waste your time with unhelpful people.
