Thick hair, pale skin. WAX!! ! It hurts like nobody's business, but it solves the "visible stubble below the skin" problem, and it doesn't grow back for weeks.

With that said--

I quit shaving my legs a decade ago-- I relapse once in a while, but mostly I gave it up for a bad job. Long pants, long skirts with tall socks in public; at home, who gives a crap.

Thick hair pale skin: just what I am. I've been trying out the new techniques I've been advised, and while my ingrown hair issue is decreasing, the aesthetics are still an issue. I may just have to suck it up and wax.

I use a epilator on my legs. Once you get over the initial stinging feeling it's fine. Works well like waxing without the mess. The money saved is alot in the long term.

I have dark thick hair and pale sensitive skin. I used to always have sores and ingrown hairs on my legs from shaving/itching while the hair was growing back. I have so many scars on my legs I don't think I'll ever be able to wear shorts and feel confidant. However, I finally figured out how to shave without my legs itching so bad I scratched them bloody, and without having any ingrown hairs.

I use Olay bar soap every day instead of regular soap. It's supposed to be moisturizing. I didn't realize how dry my legs were, they didn't seem dried out, but they really were. After I get out of the shower I ALWAYS put on my favorite lotion that doesn't give me hives. It's all natural, it's one of the few things that doesn't make me break out.

When I shave (and I try to shave as little as possible, max 2X a week) I go with the grain and I do not press down hard while shaving. I just barely skim the surface going as lightly as possible. You'd think that it wouldn't give a close enough shave, but since I use lotion every day my legs feel smoother than when I was pushing down as hard as I could (before I started using lotion) and I almost never have any irritation.

I hope this helps, I really wish someone would have told me to do this years ago. I wouldn't have all these scars on my legs from hives and ingrown hairs.

Hmm...perhaps I need to find the right kind of lotion. I attempted to shave with the grain but my legs were still bristle-like and unpleasant to touch, so I continued to shave against the grain.
Whenever I did use lotion, my legs would break out into red rashes and sting. I'm assuming now that's because I shave against and my skin is already irritated.

I will say that I have bought a new pack of men's razors and have been using a pumice stone that has been managing my ingrown hair problem quite well. There still some scattered along my thighs, but the amount has gone down significantly.

Well, shoot. I was hoping someone would have replied because I have a similar problem. Maybe the others use a depilatory cream. My skin is sensitive and the rash I get from creams is worse than the ingrown hair.

I'm not sure you're going to like the answer - because it's a little expensive, and time-consuming (in that it quires multiple consistent appointments, which can be a real pain) - but I've found the laser hair removal to be a big help.

I actually have done laser hair treatment for a year. I was receiving a discount because it was a family friend providing the treatment; however, she had lost the job, and I couldn't afford the regular pricing.

So, that's why I'm sticking to at-home solutions.
