stabilator: Sounds familiar. My dad was that way with computers, instead of tools. I loved and still love computers, but any time he was teaching my brother I was told to leave the room. :x

Whole thread: My mother was also constantly on me about being properly feminine (especially where it concerned not 'competing' with men by allowing them to see you have a brain and pretending to be bad at things so men will feel needed.) Plus the makeup, constant dieting and lots of comments about me not being pretty, really.

So yeah, I can relate.

I understand how you feel. Sometimes I get annoyed when people label something that's masculine or feminine. Like how women are supposed to be emotional and how men are supposed to hide their emotions. I think society screws everything based on biological differences and even people treat these traits as if they were true when really they just exaggerated characteristics of being male and female.

Gender norms have been around for I don't know how long but they probably won't go away unless we question and challenge the negative part of conforming them. As long as you choose not to conform then and ignore those who criticize you for not "acting a certain way", you live your own life.

Girl, I feel you!

I mean.. You beautiful and unique individual, I know what you mean! Every single word.

It probably kind of makes sense when you consider human evolution and how important apparently sex is.. And I suppose it wouldn't be that bad if on top of being a female I wasn't also autistic. Because it's hard for me to defend myself and prove people wrong. People would think that my autistic behavior is just some female thing ( I mean being shy and not being good with certain things that are expected of me).

But it really affects me in a very very negative way. I understand that there may be some discrimination for men, but there is so much sexism against women that most of it is considered to be natural. I wish I was a man sometimes .. :/
