stabilator: Sounds familiar. My dad was that way with computers, instead of tools. I loved and still love computers, but any time he was teaching my brother I was told to leave the room.
Whole thread: My mother was also constantly on me about being properly feminine (especially where it concerned not 'competing' with men by allowing them to see you have a brain and pretending to be bad at things so men will feel needed.) Plus the makeup, constant dieting and lots of comments about me not being pretty, really.
So yeah, I can relate.
