Flattered. It's like when people open doors for you. Just don't take it seriously. It's just a moment of fun, that's all.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. (:

I know he was just being polite by letting me pass, but the wink threw me off a bit.
I mean, who winks? It was just kind of strange. :?

By the by, Kalister, your sarcasm is very entertaining.

Got mace? Next time a guy even looks at you, mace him. This will make sure you stay single until you die at the age of 60, a crazy shut in who talks to her cats all day. No one will know of your death though, because your cats will eventually become so starved they will consume your body. The only things that will remain are anything non consumable you happen to be wearing, leaving being a baffling array of items like belt buckles, chains, and rings.

Investigators will be baffled, wondering where exactly you disappeared to. Did she commit suicide? Run off with a girlfriend? All the while, the only people who know what happened to you will be systematically euthanized, killing off all remnants of your existence.

the cats can't eat the bones! that would be their first clue it was your remains. . not to mention all that blood that soaked into the rug.

The cats would have a long time to gnaw, and you died in the bath tub.

what was I doing in the bathtub with items like belt buckles, chains, and rings?

I was talking about the OP. Maybe she was attempting to end it all after years of being single.

yeah? so, when are we going to hear of YOUR demise?

 Your a cranky old broad

I am only broad where a broad should be broad. . .

flattered, for some people its just etiquette to put you at ease when you could be feeling awkward or like an imposition(stepping past someone)

I think that is the actress's natural eyes. Some people are born that way. I think i've seen her before. Wasn't she in Superman too?

That's one of my favorite musicals. Now I remember that line!

Actually... neither

You should be neither offended nor flattered. It could be that the gentleman you were interacting with was completely surprised by your stepping past him, and he said the first thing which came to mind -- "Beautiful".

He may have done it on reflex, and when you took another look at him, he did a self-defensive wink.

I've seen guys do everything from comment on a woman's body to completely lose all faculty of speech, simply by being surprised by the presence of an attractive woman.

It makes no sense to me, so I've studied the species... and that's what I've seen. At times, the responses and coping behaviors of men I've watched were completely inappropriate and the guys involved in the talk seemed unable to stop it... until they calmed down a bit and felt more comfortable around the women around them. Not an excuse for their behavior -- an explanation.

I've also seen guys be so uncomfortable at not being able to control their behavior that they really got weirded out... until the women working with them convinced them through simply remaining calm that they wouldn't be sued or get into trouble for just not being in complete control of themselves. Again, not an excuse, but an explanation.

Personally, I think a lot of negative interactions has a neurological basis. We just don't cut each other enough slack. I've been on the "perp" side of misunderstood behavior, myself, and it's no fun having people think I'm being a total friggin' a**hole, just 'cause I'm intensely fatigued, disoriented, etc.

My mantra...

Again, not an excuse, but an explanation.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. I think he was just being polite. I do similar things myself although usually I wouldn't wink or anything. what he said is probably something he's said a hundred times before.

That explains a lot! I am thinking back on some inexplicable behavior that I've witnessed from men, and it really clears it up.

oh, honey! I will never forget the guy that watched me walk around the corner and ran into the sign post! Guys reacting to a beautiful woman don't have to be verbal!

(I will hold the memory to myself when I am old and gray. ooh, I AM old and gray, no wonder I am remembering it!)

I was positively floored with disbelief when I was informed that men were staring at me because I was good-looking. I thought it was because I was homely. And I was offended when they winked because I thought I was being mocked. When I did figure it out, I was flattered and amused to say the least. There are still some decent guys out there, and they do still outnumber the creeps believe it or not.
