I always carry a purse (bag), however..... there are some requirments:

1) The strap on the bag must be long enough to cross over the front of my body. I hate to have to hold one shoulder up and would lose my purse if I couldn't "wear" it.

2) The fabric must be somewhat neutral in color. Earth tones, brown or black leather, denim, etc....

3) The bag must have some organizational "system" to it that suits the way I organize things.

4) The bag must be a certain size and shape. Typically the bag is just large enough to hold an 8.5 x 11 size book or folder or no smaller than a half sheet of paper. The bag must be reasonably flat and somewhat form fitting. I don't like to fight with the bag for space.

My ideal bag?

Currently I am carrying a swiss army gas mask bag. It is a pleasing shade of olive green and has a long adjustable strap that fits across my body. It has three small internal pockets to accomodate my wallet, checkbook and chapstick/powder/etc. It has one large pocket to accomodate a book, gloves, hat, mail, etc. There are hooks on the outside for me to hang my keys from.

I have been using swiss army gas mask bags for years!! I also have "nice" bags for those rare occasions when I go out and want to dress up. They are all similar in size and composition to the swiss army gas mask bag.... only pretty.

"Yes always" but when I looked up the actual definition of purse it stated: PURSE 38 up, 13 down
A females p**** or vagina. :?

"I carry a purse in my hand-bag always" which means:
A boyfriend or girlfriend who is clingy or possessive or follows their boyfriend/girlfriend around all the time (including those that constantly text to 'see what you are up to' in other words check up on you)
"Steven follows me around all the time but seriously, I have a handbag and I don't need any more accessories" Said Kylie.
"I can see how this is going to go" replied Sara "He's a total handbag"

I have a wallet in my jacket pocket or I have my backpack, or I have a small shoulder bag, but I do not have a 'purse'

I carry around a trucker's wallet instead of the usual trifold type. It's attached to a Harley Davidson chain I've had since I was 12. Yes, it's a bit butch but it still does the job 12 years later...

Yes. In fact, I will only carry designer purses (Chanel and Coach are my favorites) because regular ones *always* fall apart immediately for me. It actually feels really, really weird if I don't carry a purse. Like I can't get myself to stay balanced or something without it.

I have a handbag (sort of - it's a large-ish canvas shoulder bag with bronzey coloured sequins on it - the random pattern reminded me of constellations, which is why I bought it).

I prefer larger bags as I like to keep essentials close at hand - umbrella, purse (as in money carrier), headache pills of various strengths, keys, phone, tissues, sunglasses, hat, notebook, etc. I don't do well with little bags, unless I am only out for a limited time.

I like a shoulder bag. I like it to sit on my shoulder, if I held it in my hand I would leave it somewhere. I prefer it to have a longish strap so I can wear it across my chest if necessary. I carry it everywhere for my necessary items, phone, lip gloss, cards, cash, and other things such as band-aids, floss or painkillers, just in case. I dont like it to be too big because I am small and I cant really do big bags.

No. I use pockets for small things and carry a bag to work. My carrying a purse includes holding the purse out infront of my awkwardly. I used to use a backpack, but grew out of it after highschool.

I find purses to be a tad too girlie for my taste, so I use a backpack.

I carry a backpack too. Actually, usually when I´m out I need the big bag because it serves as my dance bag (I am a dancer), so I have to carry all the dance clothes, shoes, etc. But I even use the dance bag (backpack) when I am not dancing, I just empty out some of the stuff and put in other stuff. I guess after all the years of carrying around a dance bag, I just became used to having all the stuff I like with me; practical things like an umbrella or medicine, but also my ipod, other clothes in case I feel uncomfortable, etc. I even carry around the tea that I like so I can have that if I happen to be somewhere where only a different tea (one I don´t like as much) is the only thing available.

Yay for the backpacks!

I have lots of useful things in my backpack. I hate unexpected situations and I want to be able to solve them.

And backpacks look cooler.

I usually carry a shoulder bag with straps that are long enough to wear across my chest. Would lose it if I could not wear it like that. It has to have room for my wallet, mobile phone, Ipod, a book and my keys.

I carry a purse around whenever I go out but only because my dad says I should because I keep my ID and driver's license in it. If I could I would only bring it along if I was going to buy something, get some money or am driving.

I do. Not often, only if I know i'll be paying for something. My current one is so beat up. Otherwise I feel fake using one.
