My childhood interests were snakes, Egyptology, and dogs.

Asperger called children with AS "little professors" because of their ability to talk about their favorite subject in great detail. It is commonly said that the paper was based on only four boys.

I think anyone who knows me would be a better judge of that than I. It is hard to be objective about oneself.

I do not know about now, but I certainly did when I was a kid.

I think I do. I'm quite sure that I have all of the symptoms to a certain extent.

I was a 'little professor' on dogs. I knew about every breed of dog. I had dog pictures plastered up all over my wall. I taped every bit of footage of a dog on tape.

Now my knowledge is on cameras/photography, Ben 10, and my favourite music groups. I do read about mental illness but don't know everything about it.

Speaking of dog breeds, what do you know about the Mongolian Mastiff? Its a VERY RARE breed outside of its native Mongolia but I do know they are closely related to Tibetan Mastiffs. The *Tsang-Khyi* variety of the Tibetan Mastiff is one of the rarest dog breeds in the world and looks quite a bit like a lion(REALLY long fur!). In China they are highly prized by ruling party elites who pay as much as the equivalent of $500,000 for a pure bred dog.

I actually didn't know until recently that single minded obsessions were an Aspie trait. I just thought I was weird and messed up.

I remember for a while my obsession was wolf like dogs, and especially the Alsatians. I could tell you exactly what their average height and weight was, their morphology, what genetic diseases they were prone to, etc. I wondered what the hell was wrong with me...

I'm generally not clumsy with the occasional exception of walking into walls. And not lacking in empathy either. The rest describes me. I'm usually careful not to bore people with my 40 year old astrology obsession, but sometimes can't help going off on it. Two acquaintance/friends, not close. Stims. Meltdowns. Social anxiety.

A meeting with all classic "Hans Aspie" topic

I thought the OP meant:

Did you ever meet Hans Asperger?
or
Did you ever meet a guy who acted the stereotypical Hans Aspie (sarcastic, as in Joe the Plumber)

That is literally me, all right.

I was quite in keeping with Asperger's description when I was little and probably still am. I was called a 'little adult' rather than a 'little professor'. I didn't relate to other children, lacked empathy (in the sense of feeling or connecting with other people's emotions), hated sports, feel over alot, was highly anxious, perfectionistic, verbose and pedantic.

As for obsessive interests, mine were - Alien and UFO sightings, Psychiatry (mother is a psych nurse, so I was exposed to plenty of the literature) and Irish history. I also had a few collections I was preoccupied with.

My early childhood obsession was cars. There's numerous videos of me, at age 3, giving the name of each type of car going down the street. Car was my first word. My father had books on them, and before I could even read I would sit and study the pictures for hours. I got called a 'boy' on numerous occasions for my large collection of toy cars, while my friends had their large collections of Barbie Dolls.

After my car phase, I went into Full House mode. That TV show became my life. I could tell you absolutely anything you wanted to know - not just episode names, but down to who wrote and produced each of all 192 episodes, who the guest stars were... I recorded the entire series on blank VHS tapes (before the time of DVD collections). I cried if I missed an airing, with or without the videos.

Around age 15, my priority went from Full House to QUEEN, and there it has stayed. Though I still can name any model of car that comes within sight, and I know more about a certain sitcom than most people ever will... or should. :P
