For you, you mean. You have no way of knowing it wasn't a problem for others. Just because no one spoke up doesn't mean they weren't bothered.

I think most men would be completely perplexed by the concept that a woman feels she has to occupy as little space as possible.

That's called privilege.

I think women just feel that they have to, or just occupy little space naturally.

Why do you think they feel that way?

That's right. It was never a problem for me and that's all that matters. No one challenged me on it, just like no one challenges guys on it.

I don't think it's a foreign concept to them because of male privilege. I think most really don't care how a woman is sitting.

I think the women who feel they have to occupy as little space as possible probably feel that way because of a few reasons. One might be an innate tendency to be reserved or an innate predisposition towards wariness. Some women might just naturally feel more secure when they keep themselves close. Also, women's legs generally angle inward because of the width of the pelvis, making them more naturally inclined to cross their legs. Women are also more likely to feel cold than men, so may be subconsciously trying to conserve body warmth. Then there is the fact that being small is often associated with femininity. And perhaps these women who feel they have to remain small, only really feel that way because it's the norm for women to keep themselves in such manner and they came to the conclusion that it wasn't ok for them to sit any other way.

I suppose if you are wearing a dress or a skirt and sitting there with your legs spread, you might draw some looks or words of disapproval, but I generally wear pants or shorts.
