I'm a cashier at Home Depot and I like it. I was a cashier at a busier department store, and didn't like it much. I actually never wanted to be a cashier again, but have been working at HD now for over two years and like it there.

I believe the career fields that are good for me are librain, journalism, english teacher and or special education teacher. I might also be good at public relations, and or acting. I might go into pyublic speaking about asperger syndrome or might be an author who wri9tes her biography about asperger syndrome.

Lab tech is pretty good. Social contact is minimal, you just work with a few people in the lab. Its quiet except for machinery running. You do lab maintenance work and run experiments for people. Depending on what type of lab you work in, you mostly work with machinery and chemicals. Im gonna be heading to grad school soon in Biosciences and I'll see what that brings. I'm a bit nervous about it.

I'm a computer programmer and a freelance photographer. I enjoy working in IT since my quirks tend to be more accepted and there are less females to 'socialize' with.

i drive buses in portsmouth, and i like it. i do obviously have to deal with the public but its not too hard for me because im not too much of a introvert, i just dont like socialising but talking to the public is ok. if passengers think im odd then its tough, is always what i say.

i am good with the passengers, some reguler ones like me and look past my autism, although they are only aquatences so dont me fully about what im like ( i can be hard work ). my job keeps me happy, and driving buses and coaches is what iv always wanted to do but only been doing it for 3 or 4 years because i learned to drive a car late and had to build up experience. but im glad i did join this bus company because this is where i met my husband. :)

as i said, i am good with dealing with the public. although it is common in autistic people to find dealing with public difficult, its not the same with every autistic person, some of us like it. i sometimes can shout at passengers if they are not co-operating properly but i dont mean it horribaly its just my way i can be a strict bus/coach-driver. :)

i admit its more of a mans job because most of my co-workers are men theres only me and 2 other women, and about 120 men but never mind.

if i could reply to this topic then i would. of course finding one would be a start.
my main perogative is to avoid retail and anything thats unsuitable for the person.
i think that women should be given freedom of speech over some jobs that aren't built for our frame or height. most of my many and few jobs were in retail and they were bad choices. to say that something paid well would be a longshot, but im no muggins either. if i said i had an epithany in a crossed off section of the store it would probably be right . there was never anyone around in any case. all noise and no work. if you dont want a fracture dont try for retail.

I'm a qualified Nursing Assistant but I have since found that I am not suitable for the job as I don't always know my strength and end up hurting people by accident (I made someone's hemorrhoids bleed last time and that's put me right off this type of work now) and the job is not suitable for me because I get frustrated with co-workers too easily so I'm going to study counselling and despite my blunt communication style I'm one of the empath Aspies/ADDers who feel too much of other people's pain and s**t...

My BS was in electrical an computer engineering by I went right into IT and got the top certification there. After having 10 years experience and those credentials I make a lot and have had people working for me for years to do the stuff I don't like. It's also highly flexible. Even though my husband has always been a stay at home Dad it's nice to be available for my school age kids. I actually worked at home when they were little but a WAH job is too isolating for me. I would go weeks without leaving the house.

If English is your strong suit, court reporting is perfect. Depending on your state, you can pick up a mask to talk into, use speech recognition software, and work mostly at home. Not working in a courtroom, just do depositions in attorneys' offices, then transcribe at home. You'd be an independent contractor, work any hours you want (except for the 1-2 at the deposition), and turn down any jobs if you don't feel like going out that day. You only have to say hi at the beginning, then you don't talk to anyone the rest of the job. Anything else is scripted.

The best job I ever had was in a craft store. I would still be working there today if the store hadn't moved to a different location. I stocked shelves there and put away items that people had returned. I did run the cash register too, but it was okay because it is basically scripted. I think that any job that relates to what you are interested in is perfect for someone with AS. I know that jobs like that can be hard to find though. I'm currently working a job I don't really like and a high-stress one and I keep trying to find a job that fits me better, but I'm not having much luck :/

i'd say any job which truly interests you is a good bet, because one of the most positive aspects about being autistic is having deep special interests.
i am like you. aspie, female, quiet, introvert.
i have a nice job as the librarian's assistant in a small, specialized library. i don't have to interact with people besides helping them with resources, and its always very quiet. i'm pretty much a grand organizer of resources, mostly electronic these days. the problem with this job is that it gets boring. i also have a job as a weekend shop monitor which is on par with my special interest, and helping people with their projects, maintaining equipment, and socializing with others through a shared interest is really great.
basically for me, anything which involves my special interests and doesn't require intense socialization is good. i could never work food service and be happy.

It's funny because I've tried to corner some of the ideal job "markets" for aspie women - primarily writing and librarianship, as these were most relevant to my education. But I ran into major problems with both.

Firstly, freelance writing is incredibly competitive unless you know exactly how to market yourself (which I'm terrible at doing), and a lot of it involved bidding for jobs without an awful lot of information on the employer/client to go on, and a couple of times I actually ended up in some pretty dodgy jobs for very little pay. At one point I was told to post fake comments/videos on some trashy site I can't even remember the name of, and when I said sorry I can't do this I ended up having to give their deposit back. Due to the exchange rate, I actually ended up paying *them* to quit. 8O Another one wanted me to write fake testimonials for a dating site, and of course the aspie in me felt totally wrong about lying so blatantly so I didn't even accept that job. Another memorable one had me actually undertake research and write up a couple of essay length papers, on an actually interesting subject - and then I never heard from them again, much less actually get paid. So I quickly lost all confidence and became far too selective about who I worked for. In the end, I worked for no-one and now write just for myself. And a local small-time website. For free.

I got a postgraduate degree in librarianship and - surprise, surprise - on the very first day of the course they said that "you have to be a people person and love interacting with the public" to be a librarian. Well f*** me

Seriously they're so pro-socialising in that line of work now that it's extremely difficult to get one of the "backroom" jobs that are best suited to our type of personality. Even when I interviewed for what I thought would be a mostly technical/solo type project, I got passed over, and I'm *pretty* sure I know why. :? So... despite all my training, as of yet I've ended up with nothing.

But if you've managed to find that unicorn of a dream job, hang onto it as hard as you can...

I'm currently in the Medical Laboratory Technology program at my nearest community college, and I really enjoy it. I love the testing aspect of it and the fact that I'll have much less patient interaction than I would if I was a nurse or doctor. I don't think I could handle dealing with lots of patients, especially if they're very upset.

Anything that doesn't involve being under pressure to interact with the public.

But the positions I've volunteered in I've worked as a: library assistant, Kennel Cleaner and Cattery assistant at the Humane Society, Kitchen staff volunteer at University of Oregon Student Union (twice), office volunteer at Oregon Dept of Human Services (again twice), Janitorial work (mostly the choir room, the sanctuary, youth room, kitchen, library and Alcoholics Anonymous meeting room) at Eugene First United Methodist Church, childcare volunteer at Eugene Parent-Child Preschool, childcare volunteer at Lane Community College Family Child Care center (hated it!), childcare volunteer at KidCity Adventures (they let me go for ridiculous reasons  ), Lane Community College TRiO STEM tutoring center (as an office assistant, been there since feb. 6, 2012)

I'm also seeking to switch over to the housekeeping part of LCC to gain some experience for a paid job (possibly at a hotel like Hampton Inn or Marriott idk wherever will have me I guess) I could get if the ball is in my field (I've heard they also pay too which at my current place, doesn't happen since I'm a volunteer and not work study)
2016 EDIT : I currently work at Lane Community College in Food service as a dishwasher and IT SUCKS! It's too crowded. Too hot. Too noisy. You get the idea.
I tried blocking the noise by listening to my iPod but, now my workplace has enforced some stupid rule against headphones at work. Personally, i think that rules like this were put in place because my current employer refuses to accommodate my sensory issues. And the worst part is, I'm not the only one! 8O At least I'll be looking for a new job soon because I HATE this one.
