I understand your issue but I really think you are vilifying the NHS. That case is far different to yours, that woman would have died without treatment, and that is just one person out of around 50 million who rely on the NHS.

If you don't want to go then don't, it's your choice, regardless of whether they send you reminders. The reason they recommend smears is because cervical cancer is curable if caught early enough, so you have to be able to live with your choice.

i get that same pit in my stomach at the thought of going for such an exam, and i'm 20 now, so i know that my time is close even though imstill a virgin and have no real interest in sex or the like. My mom keeps pressuring me to finish filling out paperwork so i can see an adult doctor(im too old for a pediatrician now) and i know that when i see her shes going to bring up the cervical smear... I know for a fact that it wont hurt me but the thought of being invaded like that-it would be considered rape if anyone else does it-it makes me shudder
