I agree with those who say it's not an Aspie thing. I don't get them very bad at all and two of my sisters (NT) are practically debilitated by cramps.

I don't have any period problems, no PMS, very little cramping for like half an hour per period, no other ill effects.

I would not survive my first day without ibuprofen. About five minutes after my period starts, the pain hits---stomach, legs, back, you name it. I also get nauseated and had to leave school once a month until I figured out what works. It's a genetic chemical sensitivity to one of my own hormones, yay me.

Periods are awful. Just all over. The first day is fine but the rest of it is just painful. My entire body aches, I'm really fatigued and irritable, and whenever I stand up I have do run to the bathroom because of a awful "pouring" sensation. I go through bouts of dizziness, and have to "weigh myself down" with melatonin to be able to stop moving to sleep. Not to mention craving weird things like raw meat and fish sticks. :?

I have heavy periods. Apparently, so did my mom and her mom (my grandmother). I wouldn't say the pain is out of proportion to the flow--in fact, the more my body adjusted to having a period, the less pain I was in, and now it's pretty much only "stabs" of pain.

Not everyone does. I tend to have no more than a slight discomfort, and usually not even that.

PMS symptoms of extreme anger and being constantly hungry are way way way way way worse for me.

I remember in high school one day, I was in the office to call my mom to come pick me up because I felt so bad. I ended up throwing up all over the floor because of the cramps; it was embarrassing.

I went on the Pill in order to get rid of the cramps, and it helped. But now I have to wait for another pack of them, and I am not looking forward to what's going to happen from now until February.

Yeah my periods are practically paralyzing. I can't even stand up, I feel so bloated, and my cramps could knock out an elephant. They usually are this bad for five days...
Also I get dizzy and sometimes faint.
I never thought that Aspie girls would have particularly bad periods, but I guess it makes sense. After all, we're very sensitive to many things, including pain.

It's been touched on, but if you're really suffering you should really consider having your doctor check for Endometriosis! It's serious stuff.

Can you elaborate on this?

I used to get horrible periods.. to a point where I once had a teacher send me home because I looked like I "was going to die." The pill really helped with that.

I don't think it's an aspie thing, though, because my mother had the same problem and she is very NT.

This is definitely just not an Aspie thing. My mother and Aunt both have this issue and are NT. Alot of my friends have this issue as well and are NT. All of us with severe and extreme periods have been diagnosed with either Endometriosis or Ovarian Cysts and according to my GYN these both can be a very serious issue if not regulated or caught early. I got diagnosed last year with Endometriosis and have been on Yaz ever since. It has helped tremendously! They will sometimes prescribe steroids and anti-inflammatories to help ease the pain.

I urge everyone who has periods that consist of severe cramping, bloating, fluxuating extreme moods, and super heavy flows to bring that up with your GYN at your yearly appointment! They will usually get you in for an ultrasound and give you a diagnosis and it will really change the quality of your womanly life.
