Uh yeah, like I'm sure that's what went through the minds of the people who created these characters: "I know, I'll give her Asperger's!" Sheesh.
I'm a cartoonist myself, but none of my characters officially have Asperger's, although some of them can be a little odd or silly.

Some people do actually. The example I gave was one where the author has stated she put her on the spectrum. Other examples (Bones, curious incident of the dog in the nighttime etc) are created with the intent that they have Aspergers.
Obviously sometimes it's not deliberate. They might be creating a character based on someone they know or some characteristics they've seen, without realising.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dawn from Welcome to the Dollhouse. I don't think the character is "official", but... wow.

Yes! Amelie Poulain for sure. I'd never thought of it before, but now that you mention it, that makes perfect sense.

Oh jeez when I was around ten years old I would pretend to be her. Everything makes sense now uwu

I think Annie Cresta from The Hunger Games has autism, and her symptoms got worse after the Games because of the PTSD associated.

Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo apparently has Aspergers.

I would add Anya from Buffy TVS. Technically she is a 1000 year old ex-demon, but even when there are flashbacks of her human life, she is very eccentric. Everyone complains that she is too literal. She doesn't understand social niceties, humour, or sarcasm very well. Most of the characters become uncomfortable when she tries to converse with them. She is very fixated on several interests and isn't interested in other people's problems unless they affect her.

For example:
Anya: I don't talk to people much. I mean, I talk to them, but they don't talk to me, except to say that, "your questions are irksome," and, "perhaps you should take your furs and your literal interpretations to the other side of the river."

Anya: [to a customer who just finished her purchase] Please go.
Xander: Anya, the Shopkeepers Union of America called. They want me to tell you that, "Please go" just got replaced with, "Have a nice day."
Anya: But I have their money. Who cares what kind of day they have?
Xander: No one. It's just a long cultural tradition of raging insincerity. Embrace it.
Anya: [to customer] Hey, you! Have a nice day.

Well spotted! I'm a big Buffy fan, but haven't watched the series in a few years. Since then, I got my diagnosis and had not retroactively made that connection to the character. I'll have to go back and take a look. Thanks for the heads-up!

If you look for "The Duck Song" on YouTube, original song written by Bryant Oden -- it's hilarious, and the Duck is an Aspie :-)

I love the show "The Bridges" and how she portrays High-functioning Autism, even though she's different from what I've always attributed myself as.

The little girl from "A Cat in Paris," I think her name is Zoe. And the cat (duh), although I think the cat is male. Also, the playable character Melia from "Xenoblade Chronicles."

There's an author by the name of Roopa Farooki who wrote a novel specifically about Asperger's (or, one of the characters, a teenage girl, has it): The Way Things Look to Me.
