I have to have one every year.

They're extremely painful and I fight the doctor every step of the way.

Very painful.

I've cried twice and at one point told the doctor to stop. I haven't had a checkup in 2 years since then.

I haven't had intercourse and never will. I don't want to have kids either. I have a bladder disease so having intercourse will be extremely painful. I'm so sensitive down there. I have gone to see a nurse practioner because of some bumps down there. The whole laying down thing and putting feet in stir rups is very uncomfortable. I have only seen women, but still. She did look down there and touched, but didn't go in. I get really tense. Other doctors have tried to do pap, but I scream and cry because it's just too painful. I don't even wear tampons. I can't imagine sticking anything down there. A tampon, a finger, a q tip, or having intercourse. I did have a boyfriend and he did touch down there, but never went in. That was ok though.

I barely touch myself down there so I don't want a stranger doing it. I'm a virgin too so I don't see the point in getting one. Until they develop an alternative, I don't want to get one. Seriously, they have scanners for everything else, why not that? D:

I'm surprised that so many people think the procedure is really painful... I've had to have one done along with an ultrasound of the uterus earlier this year, and not too long afterward I talked to the doc and she said the pain I felt was quite abnormal. She says I have a vaginal pain condition that really has no cure as of now... I think it's called vestibular vulvodynia. If you have problems with Paps and tampons that aren't solely anxiety related it's worth a check see (or Google) to make sure this isn't the problem.

I've had a few, courtesy of being pregnant and giving birth twice. lol

The first one I had was very painful, and I wouldn't let my husband touch me for a week. Every one after that it's barely a pinch and then I'm good. I'm not understanding all the severe reactions in this thread. Especially considering my first only hurt because of a psychosomatic response.

An IV or any kind of pain killers are really overkill.

It is awkward but I don't find it painful at all.

Never had one, but breast cancer runs in my family. I'm due for one.

My mother described how they do it, and... I just know it hurts for small boobs especially! They sit there and smash your boobs flat so they can see everything! NOT WHAT I WANT! But my grandpa has gotten breast cancer 3+ times so I HAVE to do these. :(
