The problem with obesity topic

When a woman's waist size is more than 35 inches, or 89 cm, this is a red flag that could lead to heart disease/diabetes.

It has nothing to do with appearance, but when I see some plus sized people, i wonder about what they eat that makes them store abdominal fat.

I think the tendency to store abdominal fat (at least in women) has more to do with genetics and hormones than what someone is eating.

Though what someone eats can affect hormones. But two people can eat exactly the same thing and the one will get a gut and the other not gain weight at all because of genetic disposition. *mumbles grumpily about happily carb-eating stay-thin people*

Back to the OP, I think a lot of it has to do with confidence. Black girls (generalization here) are brought up being told to be strong, and sassy, and feel good about themselves no matter what anyone else says. They're taught to be the "strong black woman." White girls, on the other hand (yes, another generalization) are taught that being skinny is what's pretty. If you're fat, you're gross. Obviously this is not how it is everywhere. But it's what I've seen being a white girl in America.

So the big black girl that I work with, who dresses worse than I do (rolls showing, pants don't fit, shirts that barely contain her chest) is fantastically beautiful to most of the guys here. She has the confidence of thinking that she is beautiful, and guys believe it. I, on the other hand, am ashamed to be fat. I dress in clothing that fits and attempts to flatter, but I feel uncomfortable in it all the same. I don't flirt, I don't look confident at all. So I am not considered attractive to much of anyone.

The OP seems to like her body, but there also seems to be a lot of anger there. Like if someone doesn't find you attractive, there's something wrong with them. Not everyone will find you attractive, no matter what they like or what you are. That's just how it goes. I do admit to seeing more media embracing fat black women over fat white women. There's a whole store that seems dedicated to fat black women - Ashley Stewart. You may see white women in a couple of their ads, but their fashion is obviously geared towards black women. Lane Bryant and Torrid have a nice mix of the two, along with other fashions.
