My hair looking how I want it determines how I feel about myself, yet I can never seem to work out how I want it. I'm currently cutting/colouring it myself. It is pretty short with bright pink bits in it.

I keep it just past my shoulders, in the following ways:

-Wash/condition, add leave-in conditioner, use a flat iron (recently introduced to this at the hairdresser's, found I liked having my hair straighter). I have very thick hair that, on its own, is wavy/unruly/frizzy. Usually use barrettes; rarely a headband (they don't stay too well).

-After a day or so, put it in a ponytail. I try to keep brushing it straight and using the barrettes as long as possible, but this usually only works for three days max.

-If it gets really awful, I give up and put it in two long pigtails until I wash it again.

i'm constantly letting it grow back, because i get annoyed with it from time to time and cut it bit. It is the only thing preventing me from looking like a boy...i can't have short hair, i look like a stick. still waiting for my boobs to grow.

I cut my hair fairly short, and I rarely ever tie it up. It used to be really long.

I have shoulder length hair which is layered. It depends on the occasion or weather, sometimes my hair is in a bun or loose and straight

My hair is currently just past my shoulder blades and slightly wavy. I really need to get a hair cut, because it's getting too unruly.
I prefer my hair to be just past my shoulders; I love the fact that my hair is curly, so I wear it at that length and down unless I'm in the kitchen where I have to wear it up. Better yet, my hair just forms little ringlets when it gets humid out, so I don't have to worry about frizz; I can wash and wear. Come to think of it, when I was working national jamboree with the boy scouts, men in my camp site were taking bets on how early I got up to style my hair because it naturally looked professionally done.

My hair is currently bra-strap level - I'm growing it, this is the longest it's ever been because I don't take as good care of it as I should so I used to always lose length to damage, and in the summer I can't stand the heat so usually get it cut really short - I love my hair really short, but I'm doing my best to keep growing it long right now.

I never style it - I have a huge forehead and head in general, I can't have a fringe because I have two cows licks so a fringe always parts and looks ridiculous, and I also can't wear my hair up because it makes my head/forehead look bigger so I get a lot of verbal abuse for it and generally it looks horrible. I have 1C hair (straight with body wave and two visible S-waves) so neither totally straight or wavy, I don't straighten it as it damages hair, but it looks all together un-styled when left natural, my hair is also thin and quite fine so always looks pretty flat...all this means despite healthy hair I rarely have a good hair day style-wise.

I wouldn't even know how to actually style my hair, not girly enough and can't stand products in my hair, I keep trying to make my hair curly for going out but it always fails as I can't stand not brushing my hair, which just makes curls go fluffy.

<---------- That is how I wear my hair. I can style it and put it up when necessary but this is how you'll find me most days.

I think it looks nice like that. :)

I chose other. Once I graduated high school and got a job, I started dying my hair rainbow colors. Then black and red. It was long for most of my life. Then I decided to cut it ear length. Then shoulder, then long again. Then shorter than my ears (I looked like a boy,) now I am letting it grow to chin length. I never really styled it because I had no patience and my hair always goes back to its default postion because it is thick: S-shape wave in the front, and other random waves on the sides and back. I just let it lie on my head how it wants, but with whatever cut I want.
I actually used a straightening iron on my hair in my avi photo, and, as can be seen, a couple hours later, the waviness started coming back. So I gave up on the straight-banged, emo/punk look.

Shoulder length and loose. I'm growing it out again, and when it gets longer I will keep it in a pony tail again.

When my hair is loose, I keep it behind my ears and off my face.

My hair is shoulder length with no bangs. I wear it down.

I'm in an awkward "growing it back out" period. When it was long, I wore it up and down equally.

Long (a little bit below shoulder blades), straight cut, loose. I don't bother with hairstyles. I just brush it and use some hair mouse/spray.

Third option.

Styling is a pain, and tying it back makes me look like a moon.

Mine's long, so it's nice to find so many Longhairs here. It's about three inches below my butt now. It was there three years ago, and I cut a few inches of fairytale ends. The ends are fairytaled again. It's not in shampoo commercial shape, but I do get a lot of looks and sometimes compliments, on those rare occasions I go out with it down.
Usually I do a bun directly on top of my head, concentrating the weight there so it doesn't pull.
I was never good at choosing a hairstyle for myself and other people's choices were disasters too. And I could never get the style right once I got home. I'd trashed my hair with colors and perms in the early 90's and after I had to have it cut to shoulder length, I said no more. I didn't concentrate solely on growing long hair though. I just forgot about it. When I noticed it tickling the middle of my back, I was amazed. I hadn't noticed it was getting that long. That's when I knew I wouldn't be cutting it again.
I know many a hairstyle for very long hair, but don't often try them because the bun is so simple and quick. I have hairsticks, but no one's ever surprised to find a pen or a crochet needle holding my bun together. One time, I was getting ready for work and using one of those teeny-brush things you get for in between your teeth, specialized toothbrush for bridges? When I did my bun, it was the only thing in the bathroom to hold it up, so I stuck it in there, thinking I'd grab a hairstick on the way out. I was in a hurry, and forgot. Got through half the day before somebody said something. And in full mightypen fashion, I left it in there.
