You are very likely an Aspie
It may be contradictory for an aspie, but socializing has always been a priority and a perseveration. For instance in 3 hours I'll be going out for coffee with a new acquaintance and it's nearly the only thing I can think about, but not necessarily what we will talk about, though there is a reason we are hanging out, so the fear is to wind up in the situation unprepared. Which does happen, fairly often when it comes to new acquaintances where we haven't yet built up a rapport. After the "date" the perseveration will be probably what I should be thinking about now in preparation for tonight's meet. Its the excitement of going out, having something to do, socializing, that is a driving force and I crave it nearly always. It may be an extrovert thing, which is ironic as people have always pegged me for an introvert, but it does manifest as a perseveration more often than not.
There are other things too which have been weighing on my mind lately. While doing some soul searching it has occurred to me that the things in my life I was told were negative or parts of myself that i'd try and hide were and still are perseverations. An example would be fashion, have always been interested in how people present themselves visually, as i am also interested in what people surround themselves with in terms of material objects. The healthy and socially acceptable presentation is a fascination with the effects environments have on individuals and societies, and in pursuits such as art or architecture. The social faux pas is of course I enjoy the investigation of material pursuits, something our society heavily judges. Though I still stand firmly behind the importance of quality above image.
Female artists/actors/writers, in particular ones with lesbian/queer associations. It's not that I search these out so much as I'll read something or see something in a gallery, research into it more and find that's the case. I really do believe the people and things that find their way into our lives do so for a reason, to illuminate something that needs discovering.
Being honest and upfront about anything is a challenge. Am also concerned about how to turn certain perseverations into strengths, when they are huge distractions. There are a couple of perseverations that get in the way of every day social interactions and thus healthily functioning in society, making new friends, and finding a partner.
Perception, time and space. Those are three currents that run through all interests and perseverations. How things work, why they work, where are they coming from or going to, what makes people tick, what effect does a bee have when it circles a pomegranate, etc.

I totally would've play history and opera with you. Might've had less of a lonely childhood if I went to school with you.
We've got three. I'd probably still do this! =)

Wow! I think all of you are fantastic. :)
I am interested in almost everything, because I just like to know stuff. So, if any of you went on for a few hours about whatever you're into, I'd probably love it and would also probably take notes. =)
My main specific interest is classic literature, especially were it intersects with an interesting period in history. (i.e. Homer, Ovid, Shakespeare, etc.)
Writing is huge, but I am scared to start doing it, because my life is full of interruption. I'm pretty sure that will lead to me being extremely unhappy, so that's on the shelf. I don't like this about myself, but I will be mad at anyone who stops me & I don't want to live with someone who will ask me questions when I need to be working. I have to wait for more independence & freedom. Really, no one I care about should be around me when I work. It's so frustrating, though, to have to wait.
So, yep... Literature, history, Autism, trying to find ways to logically manage SPD if possible, getting down the most efficient cleaning routine, my garden, classical music, stars & anything else out there in space, science, how things work (it doesn't come natural to me, but that just makes it more awesome to learn), philosophy (not subjective or nonsensical philosophy, but more reality-based)... I'm currently reviewing math, because I miss it (& to prepare to learn physics)...
I'm pretty attached to plant-life & trees.
Future interests... haha These are the things I direly want to know about, however I can't set my current interests aside to get into them.
Physics. Especially quantum. On thing on my bucket list is solving a black hole problem. I'm sure I'll never get to that level, but I think it sounds like one of the coolest things a person can do.
Opera. I have ideas for a couple. But, I haven't seen that many & I can't afford to go to them. I love writing, and I love the idea of writing for these talented actors & actresses with such amazing voices. Opera is so epic.
Classical Music Theory & Composition. I dream of music & think of it when I'm reading. I'm pretty sure it's original, but need to study up pretty hard to know for sure it isn't something popping up from memory. lol I want so badly to be able to record it, but have no clue where to begin. In this day & age, there has to be a good program for doing that.
Chess. I have horrible place memory, but would love to find a way to be good at it anyway. Now. I only know the moves. I'm not a genius, so that doesn't take me too far! hahaha
Wishing I had enough intelligence & time to pursue all of these interests to the degree that I wish to pursue them. (AKA Daydreaming)
One past interest is psychology. Majoring in it cured me. I think biological psychology is still interesting, but don't even ask my thoughts on clinical psych if you prefer me off the soapbox. ;)
In my teens:
- Disney films, especially Beauty and the Beast
- The occult, tarot, Wicca, astrology, etc.
- A teenage boy that my friend liked. He was in my classes and not hers so she asked me to get info on him. I am now ashamed to say that I developed into a stalker.
- Gender and sexuality.
- Body language.
- Basically anything that gave me a clue about how people work.
- Keanu Reeves (?!)
In my 20s:
- Autism
- Psychology
- Religion
- Money management
- Internet
- Parenting
- Food/diet and exercise
- Dating rules
- Anything that gave me rules on how to have a proper grown up life.
Now:
- Aspergers in females
- Minimalism
- Sustainability and world resources.
- 1 room living
- Talking Heads/ David Byrne
- Reducing world poverty.
- Many things to do high making the world a better place.
I have only just realised there have been themes.
-
Japanese language/culture/traditions/lifestyle, Nintendo games, animals and HTML/CSS. Interests have been pretty constant since I was about ten, except the last one is a fairly new one.
Went through a brief phase of liking Lord of the Rings, fantasy fiction and Danish culture for about a year and a half. I thought I needed to Westernise myself to be accepted as a person, so I did and ended up hating everything I tried.

Books and animals seem like nt interests.
I did and still do have interests that are outside the norm of my peers, and it seems outside the norm of many posts in here. I can get fixated on a subject or topic for several years that friends get frustrated by my incessant talk about it-- for a long while it was cultural diversity and racism - like how it affects and how to overcome. Currently I have a dj mix music interest--- but it's kinda been a hidden thing most my life cuz I don't like people saying I'm a groupie cuz it's not that it's something tondo with th sounds and patterns of the beat and how they blend or don't been together--- why particular song choices are made... Etc... And I am not and do not ant to be a dj.
Once I must have focused on the chemical ingredients in my personal hair care and makeup and body lotion products, enough to get a trivia question correct when I was at a bar and their were NASA engineers there. I thought they were being polite when they said they didn't know and asked how I knew the answer... Copolymers btw. And focused on ingredients enough I helped a grad student in food science engineering edit his grad school paper typed it up and created a power point for him his prof raved about--- he asked how I knew to spell some of the chemical stuff he was reading off to me. I didn't think I really knew how to spell them. And once I got into an argument with a petroleum engineer because I was explaining to him what I thought about Vaseline how it's made and its actually effects in "moisturizing" skin- lol it doesn't he thought I studied some chemical engineering... Lol now. I'm just a teacher of students with severe disabilities, cognitive and physical those who can't walk or talk. The hardest part of my day was always dealing with the functioning adults, my peers.
