13. My daughter is nine now and she seems to have started puberty. I wonder when she will have her first period.

The passed years she didn't want me to talk about love, sex and physical changes, like breasts and periods. She's very much into her looks, hair and clothing. I bought her some books about puberty (written for kids) and she said she only wanted to read about looks a.s.o. But just yesterday night she started asking about having a period and having children and I got the opportunity to tell and axplain it all, including having sex and how a man and woman make a baby in the woman's uterus. She let me tell the whole thing without telling me to stop and become all weak and rejective. And she told me she had read some things in the books about it too ;-)

She has decided she wants a child when she is 29 and wants the child to be born when she is thirty. Then she will fit in with the '30 years row of children' in our family (1938: my father was born; 1968: I was born; 1998: my daughter was born; 2028: ?, the son/daughter of my daughter will be born - according to my daughter).

I always have been very open with her about things concerning sex and periods and so on, but stopped talking about it when I saw it getting to much for her.

12, a few weeks before my 13th birthday.

was the 2nd last in my class to get my period. bled for 10 full days, used maternity pads and had to sleep on plastic sheets. it stopped abruptly on the 11th day. weird.

been having erratic periods since. endometriosis was suspected by docs but never fully investigated.

My periods started when I was 13 years, 3 months. Periods are fun.

Day before my 16th birthday. I was hoping I was one of the lucky ones that never would get it, found out I was not so lucky.

13 years old for me, my mum got pads for me and actually showed me how to wear them and everything which was useful,. i remember her saying a few times that she would take me to the doctor if i did not get it by 14. that did not worry me. I remember her hiring a movie for me to celebrate me getting it (embarrassing is it not?) i kinda wish i didn't get it at all, cos mine are heavy and painful.

but speaking for first times, did your family make a big deal out of your first period? as in say things like "oh shes becoming a woman now...' and things like that?

heh. my cousin who's 2 months younger than i am got her period when she was 10. so for about 3 years, my grandmother had been asking me if i'm a 'big girl' already or not. when i got my period i told her and she proudly announced to every single relative and neighbour that i'd become a 'big girl'.

didn't faze me much, i'd discovered my mother's heavily stained pad in the toilet at age 7, screaming my head off wondering if someone in the house had gotten hurt. mom bought me 3 'growing up' books and left them on the bed for me the following day, and i'd been waiting for my period since.
