Big comfy shoes topic

I have four pairs of black leather round toed flat slip on shoes, all bought at a second hand store. These should last ten years. But if I find more in the meantime, I will buy them to bank for later. :D

And I like cooking/baking. This is the only interest in which I can converse with NTs. I can discover new ideas. I let them talk, and I take notes.

I thought I was the only one who would buy 10 pairs of exactly the same shoe!! I bank them because I just know they manufacturer will change something or discontinue the line by the time I need a new pair. I HATE when they do that, it's such a waste of time to go hunt around and find an exceptable replacement (that will just be discontinued as well).

I can talk about food... but more on how it's produced, and the wonder of being an organic "locavore". I do cook, but can't bake worth a fiddle. Cooking is an art, but baking is science... you have a lot more wiggle room with a cooking recipe than with a baking one!

i hate shoe shopping because i have size 11 (Aussie size) feet and when you have feet that size (big feet) it is hard to find nice shoes.

i don't wear heels very much. my every day shoes are flat shoes, for comfort reasons.

I really honestly don't understand the shoe thing. I think it might be a sexual-aesthetic drive, mostly symbolic... more 'ontological' in the shared-consciousness of culture if that makes any sense. The heel is believed to accentuate the legs and buttocks, which are supposedly characteristics an NT male would look for in a suitable mate. But why? It just doesn't make sense! I mean, humans should be choosing their mates based on useful skills, like tool-making, problem solving and conflict resolution. Not "how good their butt looks". How exactly, if the whole human mating dance is about 'selecting the best mate' are freaking SHOES supposed to be any sort of indicator of health or fertility? I mean, I suppose one could argue that if a female has expensive shoes, then the shoe could serve as a status indicator.... but, expense and style/sexiness are not necessarily positively correlated.

Oh my! I wonder what it says about me that I feel sexy in ass-kicking boots!?

I don't know what that says about you.

I think that feeling confident, whether the reason for feeling confident is wearing shoes you think you look good in or some other reason, gives people a boost in serotonin which makes them more attractive. It just depends on what makes you feel confident. If ass kicking boots make you feel confident then they make you feel sexy. I don't think that "says" anything about you other than you get at least some of your sexual confidence from boots.

You're probably right about the confidence thing. I just find it interesting that what makes me confident/feel sexy is not something that makes me look more sexually viable in a feminine way (like heels which accentuate the buttocks so I look like a good broodmare). Boots that allow me to do serious damage to someone should we get into a tussle seem to be more of a masculine confidence... combat effectiveness translating into sexual prowess/genetic validation. Odd... wonder if it has anything to do with me not being particularly gender identified?!

have you seen Killing Us Softly 3? It's an interesting documentary about women and advertising.

As a side note, apparently Freud claimed that slippers were a symbol of female genitatlia...which says more about his state of mind than anyone else's

The purse is supposed to be a symbol of female genitals.

I looked up shoes in the Dream Dictionary
http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/s2.htm

and it said that if you dream of shoes,

Quote:
In general, shoes represent your approach to life. It suggests that you are well-grounded or that you are down to earth. It also represents your convictions about your beliefs. If you are changing your shoes, then it refers to your changing roles. You are taking a new approach to life. If your forget your shoes, then it suggests that you are leaving restraints behind you. You are refusing to conform to some idea or attitude.

Don't know how that relates to daytime, though. Social role? Approach to life?

Oh nooo! I even feel "wrong" here!

I dont even know how many pairs of shoes/boots I own. Over 50 at least. In pretty much every colour, (except yellow, I loathe it) usually a vintage/quirky style and a least a 3 inch heel. Always bought in sales, or discounted. On the increasingly rare occasions I go out socially, I HAVE to have "good" shoes on, it's like putting on armour and preparing for battle. Possibly because almost all my clothes are black- NOT a goth thing, I simply cant cope with coloured clothes, they make me feel foolish and an eyesore.

And just to be even more awkward, for work and daytime, I'm a trainers (sneakers, if I'm being international) addict. Always a reasonably coolish skate shoe, as for some reason, utilitarian ladies shoes repulse me.

Are my glamourous shoes sexy? Doubt it. Single the last 7 years!(for some reason, the only times men chat me up, they turn out to be a frightening number of years younger than me..suppose I should be flattered but it makes me uncomfortable) But at least I have something to talk to NT women about (bargain hunting is pretty much the only common ground I have at times)

Ligea_Seroua, could you analyze for us why shoes make you feel 'armored'?
I'm curious.

Hmm. I'm wary of psychobabble (I'm a neurosci graduate, pop psych mortally offends) but here goes..

Logically, I look at my feet a lot...as being shy/avoiding eye contact , I don't know where else to look without appearing possessed. So it helps having something nice to look at.

I'm short (well, 5.2 ish). Heels help.

I probably am compensating for not having many pairs when younger, plus I'm a hoarder.I was a scruffy skate punk in my teens/early 20s. My shoe choices then were 2:- newer converse or old converse mended with electrical tape.

All the strong 40's and 50's film icons I admire (Bacall, Ava Gardner etc) onscreen had glamorous shoes.
I dont display chest/above knee but I have nice ankles -(that is shallow, but so am I) Aesthetically, "classic" 40's and 50's style clothes , in black (my "going out" clothes) need something to add a subtle interest. I don't know how people my age should dress..

Gives me something to talk about to (NT)female friends, I probably should have emphasised the quirky nature of my shoe-philia, candy striped heels, unusual colours/leathers , repro-victorian boots etc, not your stereotypical "stripper" high heels. It is probably more to help me bond with female friends than any expression of sexuality....at heart i'm still the tomboy skater kid in a black flag t-shirt...

Umm.I don't know if this helps explain. I genuinely have very little insight into my own habits and behaviors!

I read it was slippers. I will check again later. It could be both though.

Well, if you listen to Freud, pretty much anything symbolises genitalia of some sort or other. I have a dream dictionary that follow Freudian pyschology, and 90% of the archetypes are something to do with sex. Even chocolate. :?

i used to think its stupid, but i got reqlly obsesive when i realised how hard it is to find good looking shoes. i hate like 99% of them, every time i buy ones i get extremely euphoric. every time i equip new shoes i make sure everyone notice it, i act like little kid with a new toy, when i meet a friend when i have new shoes on i always jump saying "do you notice something new? do you notice something new? ^__^" and when theyre like "swhat a cute shoes!" i'm like "AREN'T THEY, AREN'T THEY? ^______^"
