I was diagnosed with AS at the age of 17 (as well as dysgraphia, anxiety, depression) back in August of 2001. I was diagnosed adhd at age 10 in 1994. Everyone who cared pretty much noticed that something was weird with me, but I tended to slip under the radar a lot. That and the only other mental health problem I've had was the eating disorder (anorexia, which I hear is higher instance in aspies than in the normal population) and after many years of struggling was diagnosed with that in 2004 at the age of 20.

November 2011, day after my birthday on the 10th. I was 26, so I guess I will never forget that. Prior to that I was just dyslexic and depression. Although most people didn't believe me when I said I was dyslexic as I can actually spell pretty well.

My boyfriend I think has an undiagnosed form of stealth dyslexia, and although it takes him a while to read things and formulate his thoughts, he is actually a pretty good speller. Thereby I believe you.

At 12, I was referred (to a specialist, that is)by the school, after my attendance dropped to 20% (they only care, once the school starts to look bad).
Due to all the problems I was having, and dyslexia, I saw the pupil support worker 1-3 times a week. If I didn't see him, I doubt it would have been spotted.

diagnosed in 1991 with bipolar / cyclothymia and some sort of anxiety disorder (aged 18 or so) - bipolar was misdiagnosis but there was no AS diagnosis then. it should be noted that although I was suffering terrible depression and having social difficulties I had to insist something was wrong and that I be assessed.

nothing helped ..

tentatively / unofficially diagnosed with AS in 2010 (age: late 30s) under care of therapist - total and obvious slam dunk although therapist was not experienced with women with ASD and did not know where to refer me

unable to follow up at time due to expense of diagnosis and unable to find anyone locally (I'm not in the sticks, either) who seemed to know anything at all about women with ASD, disbelieved when (via email) querying to male diagnostic professional who claimed virtually no one he knew in the field has seen an adult female with ASD. (2010!!) I sent him some statistics and was rebuffed. he had no interest in the topic. I actually wrote to both Tony Attwood and Rudy Simone for recommendations (for diagnosis) and neither knew of anyone close by.

still working on it, in discussion with new therapist about how to proceed. it's difficult for me to sort through information to find resources. I was naive initially and expected therapist to help with this or do some research. maybe new one will help.

I sure do wish I could remember the exact date of my Dx-
it changed my life, totally and for all time.

I don't know that I would "celebrate" it, annually, but...
it would be nice to know my "Aspie D-day", just so I could commemorate it in my mind.

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's on April 30, 2012. I am 33.

They also suspected that I may also have Bipolar II but they couldn't make that diagnosis. (They tested and interviewed me for well over four hours, plus gave me a few questionnaires to fill out and mail in, and diagnosed me with AS from all that.)

In 1995, I got into the kind of trouble that lands one in juvenile court. The psychologist then surmised from one session, a letter I had written, and some Rorschach tests that I was a psychopath. I had to have court-appointed therapy for a year. The therapist was terrible but the law wouldn't let me switch because the therapist had to approve a switch. To make it sound even more iffy, the psychologist who declared that I was a psychopath was/is the husband of the court-appointed therapist.

In 1999, I pretty much had a burnout/meltdown/shutdown and chose to put myself back into therapy. I was prescribed Zoloft for depression (but absolutely hated taking the Zoloft and quit it) and pretty much had therapy to undo all the court-therapy that I had in 1995-1996. But I lost my job and my insurance ran out before the year was out and I couldn't afford therapy anymore so couldn't continue that as long as I wanted.

That sounds so wrong on so many different ethical levels. And Rorschach as in the ink blot tests? Those are so rubbish (which is why they are no longer in common use). I never see what other people see when it comes to those anyway.
