So I frequently stop menstruating for long stretches of time. I think it's to do with being very lean, I have a body fat percentage of 15.8%.

I am healthy though and don't feel ill or anything, so should I be worried?

I've read that either being very overweight or very underweight can disrupt your menstrual cycle.

You might look into thyroid problems. That's what it was for me a few years ago. It can also cause you to be under or overweight as well as a whole bunch of other things including depression, anxiety, fatigue, and joint pain. If you have any of those as well I'd say it's worth looking into or mentioning it to your doctor.

I'm sure I have around that, and I don't have any lapses of menstruation. I have a BMI of around 17, which is very low.

How old are you? If you're early teens, then it isn't too unusual to have very irregular cycles. If you exercise a lot, that can also stop them.

That said, a BMI of 15 is very low; you should probably talk to your GP about gaining weight.

(I'm guessing by 'long period' of time, you mean more than 5 weeks between periods...)

It's best to get it checked out. Even if it does turn out to be just your weight, not menstruating for long periods of time can lead to risks by itself.

It you aren't eating a proper diet, eating enough, or going through stress all of those things can effect your period.
