"OMG she's wearing the SAME thing!" why get mad?

I'm sure people are at least aware of this phenomenon. It's particularly evident in older television shows. I've even heard of it 'in real life'. A woman will see another woman, often a stranger, and see the other woman wearing an IDENTICAL outfit, and for some inexplicable reason she will become furious at the woman that is wearing the same thing as she is.

Just how widespread is this phenomenon? Is it just an NT thing or does it affect women on the Spectrum too? And WHY? I truly don't understand it. It makes absolutely no sense why a woman would become upset by something like this. It's crazy.

My oppinion> If she gets catty to the other girl, then she's a b***h. She wants attention, and the other girl wearing the same outfit is "competition" to her small paranoid mind. Thus her feeling of "I'm am so sexy! Look at me!" sensation was ruined. Were these outfits name branded, pricey, or slu*ty by chance? Oh heck, I hope nobody says "yes" to your questions either. I don't get that nonsence either. It's pointless.

It's a sure sign of insanity. Yeah, 'crazy b***h syndrome', I think, is what is afflicting such women.

Poor happy ladies. ^^ I am sorry if I am bothering you Shebakoby, however perhaps you may ask a lady why she does this if she sees another lady wearing the same clothes. I believe I would become very excited if I saw another individual wearing the same clothes as myself (I believe coincidental pixies are very magical).

Speaking for myself as I have a bit of insight into this:

I find it no big deal if I'm wearing casual clothes and someone turns up wearing the same top/shirt or zip hoodie, as it's just casual wear and neither of us put much effort into our appearance that day. But if I'm dressing for a special occasion (formal, party, wedding etc.) and I put lots of effort into looking special and unique, it's always a let down if someone wears the same thing. It happened to me at my year 12 formal, which kinda sucked, especially since I picked my dress and started planning for the evening months in advance .

As for all those "bitchy" women who have a problem when someone is wearing the same thing regardless of occasion, I think it's just insecurity; they worry that the other woman looks better in the outfit than they do

I know this is a women's area, but I want to share my opinion.

I believe this is related to the similar thing as men with testosterone. Competing with each other to stand a batter chance with attracting a male.

This is just a theory of mine, so I can and might be wrong ...

I feel awkward if I see someone wearing the same shirt as me or something, but I won't get angry and start bitching at her. I'm more likely to avoid the other person so they won't notice we have on the same thing, since that would probably end up either leading to a conversation about fashion, or she'd start bitching at me.

Why don't they see it as Jeez we've got good taste in dresses etc, It can be viewed as complimentary!

Once I came home from a shop and showed my mother this really nice jumper I bought, not too expensive and comfortable. She laughed and said wait a minute....came back and showed me she had also bought the same jumper ( sweater, pullover, jersey for non Aussies). We had a good laugh and agreed that we had good taste.

hm, i would be one of the bitchy ones i guess. when i was a teen i deliberately wore out of style things, if particular jeans was in fashion i would wear it only when it came out of style (couple of years later). shopping for me takes forever since everything has something wrong with it. when i was living in europe i had a seamstress that would make some pieces that i designed. i got lots of complements on these. i would be offended if i saw exactly the same thing. its stupid but i can't help it. i am often wondering how women on the street are easily distinguishable by type:"green" moms with no makeup, no heels, short natural hair and older ladies with matchy-matchy outfits and more conservative views. i like when people are unique and came with ther own formula.

i tend to have "my own thing" in other aspects of my life, my work, personal relations. i envision something and pursue this like a junkie. it's not easy for me or poor people around me that's for sure.

This happened at my Jr Prom but it wasn't a big deal to me the other girl was upset because she found out that the dress was last years and I had bought it at a deep discount $35 and the sales girl had told her it was the "only one in town" and just in the store. She paid over $200 for the the same dress. It wasn't even that high full price in the shop I bought it from. That night sucked for me in so many other ways that as long as my dress didn't fall apart I didn't care what I was wearing. The next year I made two dresses one I showed to other girls < shocker some showed up in that one in other colors> the other was completly diffrent and it in every way and that one nobody but I wore anything remotely like it. So looking back on it maybe it did bother me a little.

Yeah...it is pretty silly...It is sorta an example of the competitive nature that women are supposed to have....
I wear really weird things that I usually alter myself, and pretty much all the clothes I wear come from the thrift store...

The only remote example of where it sorta happened to me was at this show where I was supposed to play...and it was all girl acts...and we all happened to be the sort to wear tutus...

The opener was an acquaintance who played ukulele, and I even lent her pieces from my costume collection...so that ALL the girls who played that night happened to have

Tutus and striped stockings....

I thought it was funny, but I might have detected a faint bit of...something....something....from the others....

If it's some person with no teeth, no style, no nice personality, nothing nice about her, then yeah, I'd be annoyed.

When I managed a pub, I bought this long sleeved striped top. It was loud, to say the least. Pink, black, yellow, purple. I bought it because it was so different I didn't think anyone would want it. I had to wear a dark top over it just to be able to wear it myself!

I wore it to work one day. This 50 year old woman who is.. one might say.. a CRAZY b***h... comes running up to me and goes "OMG I HAVE THE SAME TOP THAT'S AMAZING I HAVE SUCH GOOD TASTE" - She doesn't. I never wore that top again. But she came in the next week wearing that top, and I hoped that she wouldn't say I had the same one, but of course, without prompting (such as "I like your top"), "Do you like my top? Emily has the same one. I know! It's amazing!" I think a little part of me died that day!

I went bra shopping about a month ago. I looked at this pretty floral one, thought about it, then went on browsing. As I wander off, the corner of my eye caught this 45+ year old woman looking at it. I'm 22. I didn't buy it.

Unfortunately I have the mind of a 30 year old. Unfortunately, I look like I'm under 18 (going by the number of times I get ID-ed). The two don't match when I look for clothes. If it's only a plain tank top or jeans that are matching, I don't mind. But when the pieces are noticeable.. that's a different matter. I hope I haven't offended anyone by this.. I'm just saying that a lamb shouldn't dress as mutton (oh crap if I didn't offend anyone before, I surely have now! Oh sod it just press the "Submit" button!)
