I have decided that I want an official diagnosis. Its looking more and more like my littlest child is like me. I want her to have help before she is 30. How do I go about getting both of us evaluated? What kind of doctor does this?

I have major anxiety issues, especially with doctors, so I don't want to go to a dozen different people and I can't find a solid answer on google.

Thank you!

Where do you live? From correspondence on this board it seems that getting a diagnosis can be very expensive in the USA. In the UK diagnosis is free and someone young, and with a child, would probably have no difficulty in getting a diagnosis.

I live in the Northern USA. I have tried calling around to places but people seem to not know what I am talking about when I mention adult Aspergers/HFA.

Maybe the best thing would be to talk to your own doctor first - the one you go to about other health problems.

There's a list of specialists by state here:
http://www.aspergers.com/asplist.htm

If you can't find any near you, you might try contacting one of these specialists anyway, to ask for a referral to someone near you. Most regular doctors don't know anything about Asperger's, so your own doctor may not be very helpful, but asking him/her for a referral is something I would try as well..
