I think my girlfriend might have AS
I'm not sure though, and I know that the "symptoms" of AS in females is different than in males. My girlfriend is 17, and she was recently diagnosed as OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, and Depression. However, I have noticed some things that she does are similar to myself. Like she gets obsessed with particular things, as do I. Of course she could just have the problems she was diagnosed with, but I'm not quite sure. She was sexually abused by her grandfather around the age of 8, and she was psychologically/emotionally abused by her father.
She has always been a little promiscious, well at least until she met me. Since the age of 14 she's had 5 other sex partners besides me. 1 she had for a year and two months, the rest ranged from a month to a couple days, except for me (we've been together for nearly 5 months now). She was so obsessed with sex that I believe she either suffers from sex addiction or hypersexuality. But it's possible that if she had AS then sex could actually be one of her "interests."
Her problems have gotten worse recently, due to a lot of stress and change. Her mom was pregnant and had the baby recently, they (her mom and her) moved into her mom's boyfriends house for a couple months before the baby was born, and her father has left Michigan to go down south (I believe Louisiana). I know her OCD is pretty bad, as one of her "problems" is she can't go into stores without feeling like she's going to steal. She knows she won't, yet that feeling is still there. She doesn't like standing too close to other people's food because she doesn't want to "contaminate" it. She doesn't like being too close to people she doesn't know. She also doesn't like being in public because she has self-esteem issues and she's afraid of what other people think. So there's social anxiety there.
She also seems to get depressed because of simple things, which I've noticed I do too. If I get all excited for something, and then it doesn't happen, then I get fairly depressed.
I guess I'm looking for a female aspie's perspective on how AS affects females vs males.
The differences between female asperger's and male asperger's are not that prominent. And if you're insinuating that a special interest in sex or a compulsion to steal are manifestations of female autism, you are completely wrong. A lot of female aspies are /asexual/.
I didn't see anything in that post that pointed to autism that couldn't be explained by abuse or other problems.

Oh no, I wasn't trying to insinuate anything. I just know that Asperger's is connected to OCD, many anxieties, and Biploar disorder. But all I was trying to do was see if if I'm just being crazy or if she really did have AS. thanks
I'm skeptical of this, as I'm very similar to an AS male, and being a person with AS, I really have no idea how one would approach a group of girls for friendship, thus I have never hidden myself in such a group...nor have I ever felt the need to, nor did I ever know previous to this theory that I, as a female, was expected to congregate in a pack of other females. This concept and it's implementation perplexes me nearly as much as that of those with AS who are married and have children....and did not just settle for their spouses.
If her therapist had a label gun they would be trigger happy.
Which has nothing to do with having AS.
It's more likely that this is a result of the sexual abuse.
I do not know your girlfriend. However I don't really see anything you have shared with us as being indicative of her having AS.
OCD and other issues, yes, but not AS.

I agree with the other posters in that nothing you mentioned sounds particularly typical of Autism. Another thought I had was that I never had the social skills to be promiscuous, even if I had wanted to be. The only way to know is to have her assessed, though.

Its nice that you are so understanding and willing to help your GF who has some serious issues. I know several who have been sexually abused in childhood and they all are or were promiscuous (I do not know any with autistic traits). Some have also continued the cycle by hooking up with abusers/predators. I think along with your support she may benefit from therapy.
She does go to therapy, once a week. According to her I'm the best boyfriend that she's ever had, and the easiest way to put it is since she is nice to me and gives me her love, I do everything I can to make her happy because i love her too.
Even though 6 partners in 3 years to me doesn't seem like a lot, I know that she is/was promiscuous because she's told me that she's had sex in numerous places, most of the time when her parents were home/in the next room. She's even gave some guy a hand job while in the car with her mother (it was winter so she said she used a blanket to cover it up).
It's kinda funny because at we're complete opposites. She was quite promiscuous (although she did always use a condom and was on birth control) before she met me, and I had sex with only one other person before.
Your girlfriend doesnt sound particularly Aspie to me. One can have those other issues without having Asperger's.
"She also doesn't like being in public because she has self-esteem issues and she's afraid of what other people think. So there's social anxiety there. "
umm for myself as a female Aspie, it isnt any self esteem issue that keeps me out of public much but rather that i just have a lack of interest much of the time to be out in public. I just like my peace and quiet. When i do decide i want to be out in public, im actually fine if Im going where i want to go and able to leave when i need to leave.
She sounds like the not wanting to be in public is just probably part of her generalize anxiety issue.

the not wanting to be in public is part of the GAD, but she also doesn't think of her self as being even remotely attractive, due to the fact that she gained over 100 lbs in about a year, year and a half...
Everything your girlfriend was dx with, I was also dx with. As well as Narcissistic PD, Anti-social PD and Borderline Personality Disorder over a 20 year span.
6 months ago I got dx with AS but I still have to work hard to overcome. It matters little what she is dx with as long as she is getting the RIGHT help. Traditional psychotherapy or cognitive therapy (CBT) may not work as well if she has an ASD. Therapy needs to be more practical based, rather than "talk based".
