that AS still exists because they keep passing the genes on." I'm tired of hearing some variation of this on WP. It's usually from some AS male who's angry that he can't get a date. Listen, I'm an AS woman and I can't get one either, so quit your bitchin'. Also, who are these guys to say that we have no right to have a family just because of being born on the spectrum? I've always dreamed of getting married and having kids since I was 5 years old and if I want to, I will. It's mighty selfish to expect me to get my tubes tied just because of the AS genes. I don't like that the blame for AS is being placed on us. AS men can and have started families too. So what do you guys think of these kinds of statement? *steps of soapbox*

It's both their fault. It's the man's fault too for consenting to have sex and create a child.

I dare any guy to say to my face that AS is women's fault. I'll f*****g tear his bowels out.

Btw, I don't think it's immoral to pass on Asperger's syndrome.

LFA, sure. But Aspies and HFAs can function and have rewarding lives. Go ask Strapples or CockneyRebel if they want a cure.

Um, my friend's dad and all her brothers are on the spectrum. She's female and not on the spectrum (though her son is). So I'd like to challenge the assertion that it's solely female-carried. Besides, if women arbitrarily decided to stop having children, that would be the end of the human race. I'm on the spectrum and I have two NT children.

I'd tell those naysayers to review some basic genetics.

buryuntime- I think I get it from my dad's side too. Of course, I'd never tell him that, he may get a tad angry. D:

DemonAbyss10- I got a seal of approval? Yaaaaaaaaaaay! *happy dance*

mechanicalgirl39- THANK YOU. It takes two to tango here people. Do some basic math: 1 man/sperm donation + 1 woman= 1 or more babies.

mv- Thanks. I would be torn about having NT children, I'd be happy for them but I feel like I wouldn't be able to relate to my children as much. Don't get me wrong, I'd love them just as much as a good mother should. ^_^

Just because AS is a handicap in today's Western culture doesn't mean it always has been nor always will be, nor that it's as big a problem in a different culture.

I see no problem with passing it on in any case, so there's no blame to be assigned. Besides, not everyone who has it passes it on in every instance. My kid's as Neurotypical as the day is long.

Anyone who claims that an AS life isn't worth living is a hypocrite.

And anyone claiming that AS keeps them from having relationships, dating or just getting laid is a whiner - obviously Aspergians of both genders have been doing these things for millenia, or you wouldn't be here, so suck it up and learn the skills.

'Awkward' ain't 'impossible'.

I am so glad I didn't know what my Autism was when I was younger. I hate to think of all the things I'd have missed out on if I had just rolled over and given up.

I get it. No. I don't think so at all. Men and women are people. There's nothing about them that you need to worry about.

Willard- I didn't get the diagnosis until 10th grade. The first thing my school psychologist told me to do was "give up on writing and pursue a career as a sign painter or singing messenger." It pissed me off so I busted my ass to get myself in the school newspaper (I was the first sophomore to do so in my high school's history) and obtained a chief editor position my senior year while being an editor for the yearbook. My professors rave about my work so if I had listened to that quack, I would have accomplished nothing. I wrote a vignette on this experience in my WP blog.

Moog - Pretty much. We're people too and deserve equal treatment. :)

I got my ASD from my dad's side, and I agree with you on having children 100%, if people here don't want kids then let them get their tubes tied or a vasectomy, and to butt out of other peoples with ASD lives.

Amen! I think I'd be a good mommy. Children have always loved me, probably because they see me as a tall child with my demeanor and having a baby-face and all. We can be just as good parents as NTs, it'll just be a different parenting style is all. Maybe we can relate to our children in a way they can't. ^_^

That is the worst school psychologist story I've ever heard. He/she sounds like an f'ing dumbass.

I got it from my dad. I could care less about placing blame.

Yeah, its on the X chromosone.

But ffs, you could always blame it on the men for their "lack of two X chromosones"

Aspie man passes on his recessive X chromosone. A woman is a carrier. If the man had been normal there would be no chance.

Its a stupid outlook and it's no-ones fault.

I got my aspergers genes from my fathers side, and mothers. He has one recessive X chromosone which was passed onto me accompanied by another from my mother (carrier).

Thats how I see it anyway.

Yes, the males get it from the mother if this theory is correct it makes no difference whether the father has it or not - But girl aspies get it from both. I think blaming people for genes is pointless and selfish.

I got mine from my dad's side too. My mom hardly has any traits and maybe her sister has it because I can remember mom saying she wondered if she may have had it and I wonder if my aunt's daughter has it too since we are so much alike.

I find it stupid to blame it on women though because men carry the gene too so why not say it's their fault too than just the woman's?
