Today on the bus this guy said hi to me and I said hi back as the socially acceptable thing to do. He and his friend started made a joke about them because they were kinda big (but practical). I didn't say much to them because I didn't know if they were flirting or just wanting to talk. When random guys say hi to me, I just say hi back, but really don't put much effort into the conversation. Does anyone else feel weird when random guys initiate conversation? For me I can only be comfortable around guys after being in a structured environment with them like a classroom, Bible study, or some sort of activity. Does anyone else also have this issue?

Yeah, I have no idea how to read men in person and have gotten burned so many times that I shy away from them. I can never tell if they want to be friends or more or just are being polite - even with something as simple as talking to a cashier.

I think its pretty safe to assume a cashier or waiter, etc. (service staff) are being polite. But otherwise I can't be sure. My case at work I'm pretty sure coworkers are just being polite b/c I'm the youngest.

I haven't had a random guy give me so much as a look lately. I think most of the time I just scowl at them. (Mostly the teenage ones with gangster clothes, but usually they don't have anything to do with me.)

Yes I never know what to do. I alwasy say "hi" back otherwise its rude. Once a guy in the pub said to me "Do you want to have casual sex?" although I admire his honesty I just sat there with a gaping confused face because I didn't know what to do.

I think any girl would just sit there with a gaping confused face to a guy who asked that. Any decent girl, anyway. Also, I salute you for going into a pub where there are all those people. I never could.

I'd think that in the open or in public areas, then they're probably coming on to you. In a restaurant, etc, they could just be being friendly.

Sometimes people just like to socialise wit h everyone - not an obsession, they don't want to be alone. At least that's how I see it

Hey everyone both guys & girls (guys, why are you in the WOMEN'S FORUMS? But seriously, your thoughts helped & confirmed some stuff in my head. I still think guys are a different species at times, but oh well! :) What's nice is that my NT friends that are girls sometimes get confused by guys too, so it's so not just me! :D
