The purpose of this thread is to create a directory of doctors that are skilled enough to make a papsmear test tolerable. Please list the doctor's name and address/website if you have had an experience that was uncomfortable, but not painful. Even better if you had a good experience that didn't have discomfort. Hopefully, this will serve as a resource for all Aspies and perhaps some NTs.

Note to physicians: We are looking for physicians with extensive experience in the field, an understanding of the sensory issues with AS. Also be aware of the fact that the papsmear test is often times compared to rape, both in physical and emotional terms. If you find a way to do this test in a way that Aspies can tolerate and recommend you to others, you will have more business (and loyal business at that) than you can imagine.

Dr. Insu Kong

Gentle Gynecology
31 Crestview Drive
Westerly, RI 02891
Phone: (401) 596-8403

Have gone through two appts with him, very gentle and fast. Uses a pediatric speculum, probably warmed. Office is warm and relaxing (looks like a office/study, not doctor's office). Has 23 years experience. Listens to and is concerned for patients. Unfortunetly, I had to move, and am now trying to find another doctor in the Worcester, MA area.

Thanks Cobalt87 for the tip about using a pediatric speculum. I'll have to remember that. Although I am bothered some by the psych effects of a gynacological exam, I can handle that aspect of it, because I understand the purpose of it. Also, I had uterine cancer just over 6 years ago and had to have a complete hysterectomy, so I had to have these exams a couple of times a year for several years after that. The part that bothers me more is the physical discomfort, which is why I stopped having the exam about a year or two ago. A little over a month before my hysterectomy, I had a DNC to fix a bleeding problem, that's how they found out about the cancer. For the DNC I was under general anesthesia, so I didn't feel any discomfort until I came to, but by then the worst was over. Unfortunately, they don't put people under for a gynecological exam.

I hope the list being compiled helps us, and NTs we share it with, too. :)
