For those who may have clicked on this topic not realizing which forum this is in, this is a woman's issue.
I recently got referred to Physical Therapy for old surgery adhesions in the pelvic area, since these adhesions periodically cause me pain and discomfort. The therapists there are supposed to work on the abdominal area, breaking up old scar tissue. It involves doing internal work too. I didn't much like the woman assigned to do my PT, but decided that I would just go along with it because I needed the therapy. Three times she has kept me waiting nearly 15 minutes past my scheduled therapy time. When I do get back there, she wastes a lot of time talking about all kinds of stuff. Then we run out of time because she has wasted so much time talking and recommending books and things. One time when I was there, she sold me an expensive piece of equipment which is inserted into the vagina, while the other end is hooked up to a computer to measure the pubococcygeus muscle strength. I bought it with me the next time as she requested, but she worked on my neck and shoulders and hips. I get the impression that she is not interested in working on my issues, but following her own agenda. I am finding her to be scattered and inefficient! I resent wasting time and money to go see her once a week. I resent spending nearly fifty dollars for this probe thingy which is of no use to me at home and for which I cannot be refunded. I most of all resent her not working on the issues I came in to be seen for. I told her that I felt frustrated at being made to wait nearly 15 minutes when I only have an hour for treatment. She apologized and said that her co workers had held her up by talking to her. I feel like I am wasting my time. The last time I was seen for this problem, I got prompt professional treatment. Not a moment was wasted. I just needed to rant!

Never mind the ranting. What you need is to report her for the delays, the inefficient service, and doing a sales pitch for something you can't actually use at home. Then you need to get a different therapist. If the practice you are going to gives you a hard time about it, go to a different practice.

If you don't become your own advocate, who will? The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so start squeaking!

Hi there,
This sounds like a perfectly valid rant since this therapist sounds very unprofessional. It shows amazing strength of character that you were able to give her the benefit of the doubt for as long as you did, over such a sensitive issue.

It's such a hassle to change therapists when your old one moves on - all of that shopping around is overwhelming. I've been tempted many times to stick with the same practice once my old GP moved on, but I suffered the consequences for doing that. If you can't get a recommendation from someone you trust, call around and ask lots of questions about qualifications, experience, therapeutic approach etc. Go and visit the new practice and just sit in the waiting room for a while - what vibe do you get from the place?

As for making a complaint -well, I know I should complain about these types of things, but honestly the amount of stress complaining causes me, it's often better for me to cut my losses and move on without justice. Let those who are better equipped for making complaints do the complaining.

It's not a problem of advocating. I am very confused about what this woman is doing. I told her how I felt, and she got all apologetic then started wasting time again. If I were to get a different therapist, I would still have to pass her as I go into a treatment room. That would be awkward. She was legally allowed to sell me the equipment, and I bought it because I understood that it was necessary for my treatments. I am more pissed that I can't get a refund for it. I am not going back there.

Thanks! I really felt that my initial impression of her shouldn't affect my receiving treatment from her. But I have learned to trust my gut and switch therapists if I don't like them.

You are so right! The woman that treated me last year was out on maternity leave, and I was very happy with her. This woman is a flake.

Right you are, again. I have multiple health issues, and find it exhausting to complain about service because it is draining. I first ask myself what I hope to accomplish with the complaining. And all I want is to get my treatments done in swift professional manner.

One good thing - I have found that another facility that I used to go to for other issues does the same kind of treatments, so I am going back there. I love that place - the staff are friendly but professional and they never, ever keep me waiting. The only reason I was going to that first place was because I thought that my favorite place didn't work with scar tissue. What a relief!
