Hi all,

Last year I was prescribed the pill by my dermatologist to help clear my acne. I took it from april to about november and my skin cleared up a lot. I decided to stop using it, however, because I found I'd become very emotional. I originally thought this was the result of stress from starting my first year at uni and having to make new friends (no success to this day, unfortunately). Crying and being sad is VERY stressful to me as I have a difficult time coping with crying/sad people, including myself.

After I stopped using it I gradually started to feel better and I don't cry so much anymore-- it's easier for me to see how lucky I am with the friends I already have.

Did anyone else get affected by the pill like this? I had no physical problems (weight gain, sensitive breasts, etc.) at all, it just made me emotional. If I ever manage to get a boyfriend and start having sex I would be apprehensive about taking it again because of this.

Estrogen did that to me to some degree (as well as other negative side effects). I've been swapped to an estrogen free implant.

I had emotional problems on the pill, mostly depression...I also suffered menstrual cramps for the first time in my life, breast pain so bad I had to take sick leave every month, headaches and migraines on a daily basis, heavier flow, constant yeast infections, total lack of sex drive, irritable bowel syndrome and multiple minor strokes, also possibly a few I wasn't totally aware of at the time. Nearly killed me.

Coming off the pill was one of the best things I ever did, I originally went onto fertility awareness method and currently using a copper IUD - both of which were FAR better for me even if I hadn't had side-effects on the pill, although it has meant a lot of abuse and poor treatment from doctors for refusing to go back on hormonal birth control.

A dermatologist prescribing the pill for acne is lazy and unethical given the huge list of potential side-effects and more general effect on the body - if your acne is hormonal your dermatologist should treat the hormonal imbalance not suppress your hormonal cycles all together.

The pill makes me depressed too. Even the mildest one drags me right down. I don't take it anymore.

I just cannot do hormonal birth control. I wish it was easier in my local to get an iud without already having had a child.

Hormonal birth control does not work for me either. I become insane in 4 days or less of it. In 1 day is it bad enough.
