I've never had one since I'm only 21 and they first do it when you're 25.

You really can't feel anything. They just prop your legs up, put a metal clamp in there to open you up a bit, and put a little brush on a stick about the size of a cotton wool bud up there, and give a little brush of the cervix, and you're all done.

I deal with women's checks quite fine I guess. We all have different bodies, and I don't worry about it so much. I've had 1 doctor see my breasts and another recently take a swab of my vagina as I was paranoid my discharge wasn't normal, but it was all fine :)

I haven't had a pelvic exam in a long time, possibly since I was 18-20 and I think they gave me one more than once.

I find the speculum to be painful and the pap smear to feel like they are using nail clippers to cut off a chunk of my cervix.

They have different sized speculum's, so depending on your .. um.. size they will use one that should be comfortable.
I would also suggest taking some IBprofin about 30-40 minutes before your exam. It will help if any kind of discomfort comes about afterwards (some women get really really mild cramps).
You can take and ipod, or play a game on your phone, etc. It's best to be as relaxed as possible because it makes the entire process easier.

Good luck :)

My aunt didn't do pap smears and she's dead now from cancer that was easily detectable if she had gone.

GO!

I've actually been wanting to get one but I don't have insurance and haven't been able to get myself to call Planned Parenthood for an appointment if they'll even take me with no insurance and not being able to pay. The last time I went long ago they wouldn't even do anything for me unless I paid at the appointment.

I only had it done once.
Nothing to be terrified about.

That sounds like it would hurt, especially when you're a virgin like me. I had to get a vaginal swab when I had a vaginal/bladder infections, and I yelled in pain.

It is not worth what it does to me to have the routine exam done, so the deal is if I see reason for it...then it gets done...but not as a routine thing.

You can actually break your own hymen. You don't need a man to do it.
It's best to do it slowly. Start off with like 1 finger every day, then 2, then 3, and 4, and so on, until you're able to get in there the size of the average penis girth.
It's better to stretch it out slowly then to break it at once.

I'm 23 and I've never had one either. The thought of anyone touching me like that makes me want to vomit and I actually start to panic just thinking about it here at my computer desk. I know it is an important exam and its quick and easy and everything...I just don't think I could make it past the reception desk at the clinic without having a panic attack...

I'm not due to get a pelvic exam until I'm 21 and I'm 19 now, but yeah, never had one.

The pap smear alone doesn't hurt me at all, but having a speculum stuck there (even though it's plastic) feels very uncomfortable and somewhat painful. And I'm not a virgin. I just try to breathe deep and stand it.
