Struggling to know what hairstyle to have :(
I've never been one to want to make too much effort with my hair, but at the same time I am getting fed up with just having long hair that always seems to look scraggly and hangs long without no particular attractive style, and takes forever to wash and dry. I did have it so the strands at the front are shorter than the rest, but all I keep doing is subconsciously tucking it behind my ears because I feel rather claustrophobic with hair all in my face, but I don't realise I tuck it behind my ears until I notice that I feel rather unattractive and so I put it back over my face again until the next time I subconsciously pull it back behind my ears again.
I don't really want a fringe, although just having a fringe will solve a lot of problems and is the type of hairstyle that suit anyone of any age (at least where I come from, don't know about hairstyles in other cultures), and also it doesn't need much maintainance, just a quick brush in the mornings, and it still looks nice all day, and also give your face a better shape. And that's another thing - I seem to have a shape face where no hairstyle suit me except the fringe one. Having my hair all scooped back off my face makes me look really stark, and I hate straightening my hair because I always burn myself on the back of the neck (I have Dyspraxia and sometimes have difficulties handling objects like that) and also I have a feeling my hair isn't going to stay nice and straightened for very long, and I just don't know what other type of hairstyle to have. I don't want it too short, I want it just past the shouders but also looking nice and easy to maintain.
How do you wear your hair? Did you get ideas from girls in magazines? I have flicked through a few magazines but pictures of girls in magazines always look better because their hair is proffessionally styled just for the picture, it probably never looks as neat as that every minute of the day. I just don't know what to do with my hair to make me look more attractive.

Joe90, What's your face shape like? Is it oval, round, square or heart? That will help determine what style might suit you. I tend to like bobs, which are usually fine for most face shapes. I always suit a jaw to shoulder length bob. You could maybe opt for something graduated, to give your hair body.
My hair is very curly, so I don't really have many options on what style to have. It's short just now (about 5/6 inches at it's longest but looks shorter as it's curly). It's neat and tidy, which is the most important factor for me. I don't think I'm taken seriously when my hair is a little bit wild (which is inevitable with my type of hair and Scottish weather, especially if it is long). It's not in any particular style, just curls all over my head and I'm wearing a hairband to keep it off my face and to stop it being too high. I cut it myself a couple of months ago, using clippers, and it was cropped, kind of like a Halle Berry pixie cut, so it has grown an awful lot since then.

I had my hair cut recently. I did a google search and found some really good websites. Some list the pros and cons of particular styles, let you know how long it takes to style and popularity.
You could discuss what you want with your hairdresser and they might be able to make some recommendations. It's alright to take photos of the styles you like. It helps let them know what you want. Just don't expect it to look exactly the same. Celebrities and models have teams of people to make them look the way they do.
I went with a simple bob which hangs just below my jawline and an off-centre part. I've got straight hair, so it's perfect for me. It's easy to handle and style. If can't be bothered or get hot I can pull it back in a ponytail. If I've got to dress up, I rub some mousse in and blow dry it so it gets a sea salt beach or fashionably messy look. Simple. No fringe though. I've got oily skin so hair that sits on face too much gets oily quickly.
Good luck!
My shape face is a stupid shape what doesn't seem to suit anything at all really, except a full fringe (which I don't really want at the moment). I've got a stupid ''bloke-ish'' shape face, or so it seems, it starts off nice at the top where my eyes are, then gets narrower until it gets to my chin. I am very uncomfortable with having this shape face, I don't consider it ugly but I am still ashamed of it and I wish my face was more rounded. If it was more rounded, perhaps my hair would stay either side of my face better without keep flopping forwards over my nose and having to put it back literally every 3 seconds which I can't really be bothered with (then people say ''oh you look nervous if you keep touching your hair and putting it off your face'' - you can't win!)
It seems my hair is too thick to do anything with. It's incredibly straight and heavy, so whatever I try to do with it, it just hangs, making my face an even more ''long'' shape and I don't think it does me any justice. I would like that type of hair most people have where it kind of hangs lightly, if that makes sense. I was thinking of getting it feathered, or thinned out, to make it hang better and in a more attractive style, but then I'm afraid I might have to straighten it, and I can't get on with straighteners. But if I don't straighten it, it might all poke out and not look the way I wanted it to look (although it isn't a bad hairstyle, but it's not what I want).
I might have a chat with my aunt about it, because she is actually really good with fashion and beauty, so she'd be able to give me a few tips or ideas before I see my hairdresser.
