Did anyone here ever have to have a catheter? Was it horrible? Could you feel it the whole time? Did it hurt? How was it when they took it out? Presumably I'll be unconscious before they put it in, at least I hope so.

I'm going to have one for a week after my hysterectomy.

I have had it done a few times. The first time it stung when it was done and the next times I've had it done, I felt nothing. I also felt nothing when they took it out. Last time I had it done was when I had my baby. I felt nothing but I had an epidural then so that may not count. I was so numb down there.

I had one in when I was tested for bladder reflux when I was seven. It had ink in it--I was lying down, and was supposed to pee, but I couldn't. They eventually gave up and had me pee in a toilet.

I don't remember it hurting, but it was obviously a very stressful event.
