Makeup, Hair, and Dressing up

Anyone still play dress-up...? I really enjoy playing with my hair and make-up... I also still like the idea of fairy tales... I almost feel as if I have been regressing lately... Just in general, I am getting older but it seems as if my symptoms are getting worse.

I like doing these things to my Barbies if that counts . I'm 15 though (I didn't like plying with them when I was 11, but have started to get into this sort of thing again).

I don't think I ever really played dress up. I was/am very much a tomboy. I did play with dolls up until I was around 14/15, but that was the only girly thing I did. I do not wear make up, and I hate doing my hair so much that I keep it about 1" in length. Right now, it is dyed bright red. I, also, usually only wear jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers. I've never really been into fairy tales, but I do love children's/young adult fantasy books and adult mystery and science fiction. I absolutely love Michael Scott's Alchemyst series. The amount of mythology, historical figures, and lore weaved into those books is awesome.

I have never been into the "dress up" thing. Very much a tom boy all my life.

I actively played dress-up until I was 16. I didn't lose interest in it; I made myself quit because I was "too old". Costume was one of my earliest special interests. I would still dress up if I had the time and if my husband wouldn't make fun of me.

I sometimes wish I had a more visible job so I would have a good reason to spend time on my appearance.

Oooooh! I didn't know you liked to do this! Me and my best friend in town do that a lot. Sometimes we have actually gotten some food and drinks ready ahead of time, some DVD's and CD's and all too, and dressed to the nines, hair, makeup, nails, shoes, gone completely overboard like we are going out on the town in NYC with a rich guy, and then sat in the livingroom watching the movie or something and eating off the china and drinking out of the crystal. You should come next time we do it! I thought it was only us that did it.

You got to come to our next spend the night thing then! For real!

My ex-friend used to have Oscar parties where she'd put on a vintage evening gown and pretend to be a movie star. I used to dress up and stand in front of my bedroom mirror and be a lounge singer. I was in my late 20s when I did that.

ME!! !! Me and my little sister(who is also beyond the normal age of dress up) love to do our make up and make each other fashionable outfits and take pics of ourselves in them. I have TONS of these pics, unfortunately my sister looks like a supermodel in hers and I look like an obese doofus. I can't pose correctly.

I'm only now getting into this (as is my husband). We've been going to burlesque parties, where people wear fabulous OTT outfits, not necessarily corsets and stockings. They spend a lot of time and effort to look amazing, for one night. So, I've been spending more time than usual practising applying make-up and getting dressed up. The next party is in 3 weeks and I'm getting geared up for it just now. I wasn't prepared enough for the Halloween party. Although I was happy with my look, my friends put in way more effort and I felt a bit deflated, when I saw them (although I was really impressed and happy for them).

I've only just started getting into "girling up" since I noticed that ppl treat me differently than when I looked like a tomboy. I get more respect.

I only recently started to get more into that whole makeup and clothes thing. I'm 19, so I don't know where this suddenly comes from - puberty should be over by now. I'll never look like a beautiful princess, but I was thinking about getting some makeup and maybe wearing something else than boring shirts and jeans.

I stopped dressing up/wearing makeup for a few years, until I was reminded why I like doing it in the first place. I went to one of my tribe's festivals(native Americans) and I was inspired by the face paint and the elaborate clothing designs. So I started dressing up and while the makeup I wear is light and more or less doesn't stand out much, it's still my own little creation each time. I recently chopped all of my hair off so I don't really do anything with it. When it grows back I will likely braid it in various patterns like I used to do regularly.

I would call it self-expression but I worry I might inspire a sufferer of queen bee syndrome to go full on Dr. Phil on me, so I'll just say this: despite how much it feels like an expression of my diverse heritage, and despite my being a lesbian, it's all about snagging a man and my desperate need for society to think my face is slightly different than it is in reality.

Not so much a fairy tale thing. I've recently altered some clothing my grandmother originally designed/created in the 40s and 50s. I've had to take extra caution with these items but I absolutely love the feeling I get when I'm wearing them. Like I get to experience a tiny fraction of the life of the woman who raised me and who was my best role model. And sometimes I feel a great sadness when I think of her healing process after accepting that her family were all gone, lost to genocide. I wonder if new, unique clothing was part of the process. I feel moved to be a better person in these dresses and jackets.

So... I love dressing up, I love wearing bright eyeliner and shimmery lip gloss etc.

It is part of my identity that I feel I express without saying a word. I don't expect anyone to get the exact same idea of it as me or anything. But I feel like I'm writing a piece of history for all to read when I dress up/wear make up.

Interesting way to look at it... I love eyeliner lol and it has nothing to do with guys. Is it narcissistic if I put on makeup to look at myself lol?

I hope not. That's why I did it.
