If you are one of these people who are offended for some reason by periods, then don't continue to read this or whinge about it when I am writing it in the Women's Discussion thread, where I have every right to discuss this.

Anyhoo, I have had a strange one this month. Basically, I have had a heavy period but it has been coming across as a light one. What I mean is that barely any of the usual blood has gone into the sanitary towel as I have had a series of blood clots that have prevented proper flow and then the rest has just turned into one big clot that is, obviously, clogging things up down there and is painful when I lay down, hence I am not sleeping very well.

Any other women here experienced this?

Only after I've had a baby.

My first thoughts: endometriosis, or possibly an ovarian cyst that disintegrated (they can look like clots when they come out).

You ought to try drinking red rasberry leafe tea a few times a day when you have your period.

I would have to agree with the pp and a check with the gynecologist over it couldn't hurt either. I have had clots usually only around my miscarriage I had years ago and after having the boys. I get normally heavy bleeding due to fibroids.

Oh my, yes. Could you be miscarrying? I didn't even consider that possibility. In which case you ought to get checked out asap! Even go to an ER if necessary.

I have this feeling that a big clot might clog up and cause TSS, like over-absorbent tampons. I'm probably wrong, and I hope I am, but if I could be correct you need to see a doctor right away Fiz.

In light of the fact it is painful, I also think you should go to a doctor.

If I were you, I'd be heading to the doctors now. Since what you're describing is abnormal for you, and very painful, it's definately something worth having checked. Even if it turns out to be nothing, you're still better safe than sorry, and if there is something wrong hopefully they'll be able to nip it in the bud. Hope you feel better soon, you have my fullest sympathies!

The doctor on Oprah said that clots the size of an egg or bigger are bad.

I think it's time to see a doctor, as huge clots like that aren't a good thing, especially if it's causing pain. I've never had any clots that I've noticed, then again I've never had a miscarriage.

My period this month was heavier than usual, I had more cramps than usual, and I had a lot of clots, when I normally have none. I didn't go to the doctor and I'm fine.

Have you been lying around a lot? I think lying around instead of being up and walking can cause the blood to stay in the vagina, where it will clot, instead of coming out right away. Anytime blood sits long enough it will clot. But if you are in significantly more pain than you usually are w/ your period and are seeing BIG clots, then I agree to see a doctor. But I don't think that it's necessarily something to be worried about. How big do you mean by big? pea sized (I think they look big, but was told that's small)? lemon sized? (definitely big and should call a doc.)

Some were about twice the size of a pea, but I'm ok now as it has stopped, as has my period and I'm in no more pain. I just found it quite bizarre as I have never had that kind of thing all the way through a period before. But if it ever happens again or is worse than what it was, I will see a doc next time as that just isn't normal for me. Normally I just usually flow.
