I had one of those a few weeks ago, because of complications following a medical abortion (long story).
She didn't have to use the grip-thingie, because my cervix was already fairly low and open because of the recent abortion, and it didn't hurt overly much when she inserted the suction tube thing either, more like the "pinch" they warn you about, but I always have a STRONG vasovagal response (stimulus of the vagus nerve, leading to cold sweating, nausea and fainting) whenever someone is poking around inside my uterus.
10 minutes after the biopsy I started feeling bad, and had to wait in the hospital for another hour and a half before I could leave, spent that time sweating, shivering, nauseous and dizzy on a bed in the hallway with cramps you wouldn't believe...
So while the procedure in itself isn't bad for everyone, people with a sensitive vagus nerve should be prepared for those kinds of reactions following the procedure..
