I'm told I need to wear makeup to look better; only problem is I have no idea how to wear it and the whole process looks very confusing, often leaving me feeling very agitated and on the verge of meltdown.

No one seems willing to teach me, as I know I can be a very frustrating student.

Why do you have to look "better"?

Everyone looks better with Make up, man as well, still the majority dont feel a need "to have to wear make up" to look better.

In those perfume/beauty areas of department stores, they'll test make-up on you. I'm sure they would be willing to teach you how, as well as how much make-up to use and which.

My problem: I will go home and have difficulty remembering the instructions. I will do shoddy work. Then after a week, I'll get really tired of doing it and poop out. Then for a month, I will have below-average energy levels and struggle to even shower, which I would do for only once a week or so and will have a hard time getting to work. I will have lots of times just sitting in bed, knowing I have to move, and not being even able to execute the movements required to do it.

This is what happened when I started trying to keep better care of my hair.

I'm guessing that anything like keeping up with my hair, face, or nails is just too much for me. It saps my energy too quickly.

Sloppy is probably the way to go for me, except for interviews, in which I can go and pay to have this done just for those occasions.

I don't think make-up makes people look better. I mean, if one's ugly, it's not like she puts on make-up and becomes some kind of Goddess of Beauty  But I might be wrong. I'm not an expert in make-up after all. The only make-up I've ever put on was lip gloss and a little eyeliner, since they're the only things I can put on without feeling much itch. I was told I actually look the age I am when I put eyeliner on, but I do not agree. I think I always look like a 16-year-old and that most girls my age look older because they put a lot of make-up on, and therefore I look younger to people's eyes. Also, when you're my age looking older or younger is easy: you put make-up on, you look older; you don't, you look younger.
People have also told me I look better when I put on eyeliner, but I think this is bulls**t. I always look the same to me.
I hardly ever put make-up on. Too much of a drag

And since I'd look pretty much like a man, anyway, there wouldn't be a point. Thanks for the perspective.

Just wearing mascara and blush and lip gloss or tinted lip balm make a difference.
Neutrogena is a good brand to start with. Choose softer colors, not too dark or intense.

You shouldn't wear make up just because someone else tells you that you "need" it. I honestly think that people get jealous when they see someone who's bold enough not to wear any makeup, when they won't leave the house without it. Not to say that there is anything wrong with make up, because it can look pretty and bring your features. I do use it on occasion. But I can also relate, because I was told the same thing, and started putting it on just to please others. I realized after a while that it was just time consuming, and didn't make much difference to me.
I started wearing it again recently, but only when I want to. I really don't use make up as a rule. If its a special occasion, or I just feel like wearing some, I'll use a little lipstick or eyeshadow/liner.
If you decide that you want to apply make up, you can look at some tutorials on youtube and see if there are any techniques you like. :)

Makeup does make you look more polished and "finished", so depending on what field you work in, I can see this suggestion. Really, you can just use a foundation and powder (or combine them in a mineral powder foundation) possibly a light coat of mascara and some lipstick. Depending on what your features are like, I would say add or subtract. My eyebrows are very light and thin so without doing my eyebrows, I look like I don't have any. My eyes are also hidden when I don't wear eyeshadow and mascara.

You might want to look up the YouTube channel GossMakeupArtist because he has some great tutorials on makeup. Watch them before you go buy makeup. Find something that looks simple and quick and like something you would do every morning and then buy the makeup for that.

I know you had said you were trans but I forgot if you are MtF or FtM. Your makeup will of course, depend on which one you are and which gender you "are" at work.

Just try practicing with a little bit.

Have fun with it and experiment. You probably will look like a clown at first, but everyone has to start somewhere.

Practice makes perfect.

And you don't have to wear it if you don't want to either.

I think there is too much pressure on women nowadays to wear makeup, due to mass media and heavy advertising from corporations that make and sell it.

Personally, I wear a little powder or foundation, and sometimes lipstick. I'm 52, and eye makeup actually makes me look older. I feel like I actually look better with very little makeup.

In my opinion, most people like fine without makeup.

There are TONS of great videos on YouTube that show you how to do the most basic stuff, like apply foundation, lipstick, mascara, etc. to how to do more elaborate looks. Get some basics and play with them at home. If there's a Sephora in your town, shop there -- they can help you find makeup colors that look best for your coloring, and if you don't like something or find it irritating, they will take anything back at any point and allow you to exchange it for something else.

It takes practice to learn to apply makeup in a way you like. Spend some time in the evening or a weekend just practicing and trying different things.

I am hopeless with makeup too. I may take a workshop one of these days. As suggested previously youtube does have a lot of tutorials (basics, day wear, natural etc.)

Well, nobody actually has to wear make up. I don't wear it and it's never stopped me from doing what I want. Maybe the people you associate with shoud stop criticizing your appearance. I bet it was other women trying to pressure you. It usually is ( at least for me). I don't know why, but some ladies think they are doing you a favor by shaming you into conforming to their own lifestyle. What they really feel is embarrassed to be around you, so I just drop morons like that.

But if you genuinely want to learn how to apply make-up, there are always YouTube tutorials. Just make sure you are doing it for you and not for anyone else.

You look fine to me. You could experiment with makeup but don't feel obliged to use it.

If you do decide to do it, concentrate on one feature at a time. Learn to do your eyes first, as that has the most dramatic effect, even if it's just mascara. Don't start off trying to do your whole face. There are videos on Youtube giving instructions on how to do it.

You seem to have good skin like I do, so you don't need to wear foundation if you find it too heavy. Blush can be good, though. I like to concentrate on the more interesting bits like eyes and lips because I don't see the need to coat my facial skin in order to get rid of its natural variations. Some people see foundation as a way of prepping the canvas first (which it is), but I don't like the way it feels and I already like my complexion. I don't have a job where I need to look 'polished' so makeup is all self-expression for me.

Makeup is more like face-art to me, a creative activity, than something people have to do to look pretty. I like it, but I don't care if someone isn't wearing any. People's faces fascinate me however they present them.

Don't beat yourself up for it. I can relate. I don't wear makeup much. I've learned to do it over the years but most of the time I'm a bit scruffy, as well.
