I get really dry skin on my feet. It gets flakey and looks terrible. Lotion never seems to work and those foot specific things are expensive and I don't want to buy something just for my feet, because nobody sees them anyway. It doesn't itch or hurt, it just bothers me to know it's there and when I see it, it looks gross.

I found something that helps it!

I get a pair of my sons white socks that just come to the ankle and Vasoline (pertoleum jelly if you don't have that brand) Right before bed, after my bath (if I haven't had a bath that night, I wash and dry my feet well for this) I put a very thick coating of vasoline all over my feet. Between my toes, on the bottoms, around the nails, etc. Then I put on my sons thick white ankle socks and go to bed. I sleep in that. I hate sleeping in socks but it wasn't so bad. They didn't come off during the night either, which I was afraid of. I suppose if you worry about that you could use longer socks. In the morning, most of it has either been absorbed by my skin or the sock. If I do this for three or four nights in a row my feet look great. Once they look that way, I do it about twice a week to keep them from looking all gross.

You should use white socks though. I think they are thicker. The article said to use white athletic socks only. His ankle socks are made out of the same thing.

It also said you could do the same thing with your hands when they are very dry by using white cotton (not knit) golves instead of socks. You can buy those cheaply in formalwear stores. You just wash and reuse them like you do the socks.

Thought I'd pass that on. It reminded me when I put it on my own feet tonight. Although I'm not sleepy, I do have my houseshoes on over the socks, so it will still work in bed or out.

Good tip. Thanks for sharing that. I'm going to try it.

I've been picking at the bottom of my heels because they're so dry and the skin gets flaky. It's bad because then it hurts to walk on the raw skin areas.

Seconded. It does work wonders.

Yep, I did something similar last year when the skin on hands was in such a bad state that it was cracked and sore. When I washed my dishes I put on heavy duty moisturiser then my rubber gloves. The heat from the water helped too.

I'll try that. Right now I'm using Palmer's Cocoa Butter, which is helpful but only to a degree.

The kind in the jar? That's what I use when I lay out. I don't use it in the tanning bed, but I use it when I tan in the yard. It works great. But only if you tan easily and only after you have been out a few times and gotten a little brown.

hmmm, I've done gobs of lotion then put socks on but they didn't last long after the lotion was absorbed, I just couldn't stand it. I suppose vaseline would take longer to absorb so I'd feel more comfortable. I have some vaseline around here somewhere and I have white athletic socks so I think I'll have to give this one a try. I hate winter feet.

I'm a bloke - am I allowed in here?

I use CCS, which is professional foot care cream for dry and hard skin.

I have very bad eczema on my left foot, and I have scary, nasty corticosteroids I use on it. After I put the steroids on it, I have to wrap my foot in saran wrap. That works pretty well, though I don't like doing it.

Hello,

Well, Scrubbing the hard, dead skin away helps a great deal in getting rid of dry skin on feet. Before scrubbing, soak your feet in warm soapy water to help soften the skin and make it easier to scrub.
