Recently, it was really hot here, which meant that my skin was slightly sweaty, and when I put my bra on, it would stick to my skin and pull it. I couldn't get it to stop pulling my skin no matter how much I adjusted it. It was really irritating. I felt like taking it off and throwing it across the room.
Does anybody know of a bra that's comfortable to wear when it's hot and sticky outside?
And before anybody suggests going without a bra, that's not an option.

I don't have any suggestions for a comfortable bra for summer, but I wanted to add that I also have "bra" issues, and I wonder if this is an issue for other Aspie women. I find wearing a bra in general very uncomfortable to the point of distraction. And going without a bra is not a possibility.

I choose to become a recluse about 7 years ago, and have figured out a way to work from home. This enables me to wear a man's cotton (tagless) white undershirt instead of a bra, with a comfortable denim shirt over it when I am working at home. But of course I do have to go out in public regularly to grocery shop, and take care of other errands, which of course necessitates wearing the dreaded bra. I have found for me that I can only tolerate it about 2 - 3 hours before I must go home and remove it.

I wear a comfortable sports bra, cotton with no seams or lace, but even that is unbearable after just a few hours.

Is it just during the summer that you find wearing a bra uncomfortable?

To me, the least evil choice is the Playtex Women's Active Lifestyle Bra. It helps me feel comfortable if the bra is roomy around the chest and has wide straps.

good luck!

I don't wear a bra when I'm at home, either, which is usually most of the time, unless I'm at school. The minute I get home, it comes off.

I find it uncomfortable at other times, too, but moreso in the summer because it sticks to my skin. I find that incredibly irritating. Having my clothes stick to my skin, twisting and pulling on my skin nearly sends me into a rage.
The things that irritate me the most about bras are when the straps keep falling down, the band digs in after a while, or the hooks on the back sometimes dig into my skin. When I'm sitting for a long time, sometimes the underwire digs into my ribs, as well. And when the bra has a strip of fabric around the bottom of the cups that has a texture to it, that's even more irritating, because it digs in and starts to hurt after a while.
I have a sports bra, but it must be too small, because it keeps riding up, and I have to keep pulling it down. That's irritating as well.
I have decided to try a Hanes comfortflex bra and see how that goes. It doesn't have underwire, so I'm hoping it won't make my boobs look saggy.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have decided to try a similar bra made by Hanes called comfortflex. It doesn't have hooks on the back (it pulls on over your head) or underwire, so I'm hoping it will be more comfortable. I would love it if I could get away with just wearing a tanktop under my clothes, but that wouldn't be enough support.

Make sure you are really wearing the right size bra. Some of the better department stores have bra fitters that can take your measurements and suggest sizes and styles. Some of the more expensive brands are also constructed better so they fit better and hurt less.

If having someone measure you is not going to happen or you have nowhere to do that there are bra fitting guides online that explain how to take your own measurements and determine the actual proper bra size. Sizing also varies by brand. If you find a style/brand that works but is expensive, they can usually be found new with the tags still on for quite a bit less on Ebay.

I have been trying to come up with a design for a sports bra type bra that is super comfortable and fits properly to wear in the summer. I find parts of certain ready to wear sports bras that look like it would work but can never find one in the right size or they have some part of the design that doesn't work right.

I have only one bra that I consider comfortable during summer, all others make me too sweaty.

It's made of very soft cloth that feels silk-like. It actually can keep me cold during hot days because it seems to be always colder than its surrounding.

Unfortunately it is really thin compared with my other bras so I can wear it only with some clothes - something with print in front that is able to hide the nipples shape. It's apparently a "sheer" kind of bra according to wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_brassiere_designs although its not transparent.

BTW, A tip: lots of uncomfortable bras can be easily turned into comfortable ones when you take of the underwires. All you need to do is make a small hole and take the underwire out. That's what I do with all of my underwire bras. The summer silky one was no different.

I also recommend this bra, I have been wearing it for several years now. I spent copious amounts of time looking for a bra with no lace on it, no scratchy fabric anywhere, no underwire, and yet something that would provide some support. I would love to be able to wear the sexy bras with underwire, but I just cannot tolerate them at all. (Not even for short periods of time). I can barely tolerate a sports bra, and this is the most comfortable I could find.

The only one I can remotely stand is a sports bra. Seriously, bras are so goddamn uncomfortable. Most try and make your tits look bigger by pushing them up and I hate it. At the same time I hate how liquid-like boobs are, like hell you can't run up stairs without them doing dumb stuff, and bras help slightly. Really hate owning boobs. Boobs are dumb.

I know. I went bra shopping last night, and I must have tried on at least 15 bras. The ones that weren't so uncomfortable that I wanted to throw them across the store only covered half of my boobs. With the rest of them, either the underwire dug in, the band dug into my ribs, or the edging along the cups dug in.
I'm going to try some fruit of the loom sports bras, and see if they're even remotely comfortable.

You might rule out underwire and choose a size loose enough to reduce the "dug in" effect.

I have a 100% cotton sports one that I wear, that is the only kind I will wear in the summer.

Free People is all I wear now. It is really comfy, at least for me:

I bought three and just handwash them whenever they need it. Even though they are nylon they feel like cotton to me. But I am a lot sensitive to synthetics than I was as a child (or did they get better in the 30-odd years since then?).

I can't stand bras without cups; sports bras mash your sweaty tits together and it's revolting. Try a variety of soft fabrics (t-shirt material, satiny etc.) until you find one you like, and probably skip the underwire.

That's the whole point: the ones I use separate out the breasts. It does *not* get sweaty. That's why I use them. There are others on the market that do this, too, but the fabric feels less natural on the skin than the ones I use. I ditched all the others -- too scratchy.

I also hate when they get smushed together. Ugh. It looks and feels awful.
